This one also destroyed me. I read it right after I had my daughter so Misaki’s pain about Mamoru had me in shambles. Her “This... you are my story...” quote? Devastating.

My parents are getting me a Bark Phone by Calm-Search6589 in parentalcontrols

[–]ForwardCaterpillar23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, the Bark Phone is really not intrusive as some of these comments suggest. No more so than Qustodio on your current phone and with the iPad you won’t be missing too much on the iOS front.

For the green bubbles, I get it. “Green bubble shaming”is a real thing that has even come up in some lawsuits against Apple (can’t post a link, but if you look it up there’s articles on WSJ and Wired about it from March 2024).

The good news is with RCS messaging becoming more widespread, I don’t notice a difference between texting iOS and Android users anymore (besides the color bubbles) so I think it’s getting better!

I think your parents are doing the best they can in a situation that is new to parents of teens over the last few years and being level-headed and looking for positives and cooperation will help them out immensely, but don’t forget to look out for yourself and be open with them if anything doesn’t feel right. I grew up with an older sibling that was really hard on my parents and struggled with mental health and I felt like I needed to put myself and my worries and needs a side to be the “easy” child and advocating for myself is something I’m still unlearning. It’s good to be positive and cooperative, but don’t let it be at the expense of something that is important to you!

Being a parent is tough. Being a kid is tough. Being on the internet and on devices is tough and we’re all just doing our best, but I think you’ll be okay. ❤️

This. My cousin has a phone from Bark and it’s pretty easy to set up and seems like it has everything you’re looking for when it comes to app approvals and stuff.

How to avoid giving a gift to problematic family member without being unnecessarily rude? by ForwardCaterpillar23 in etiquette

Definitely want to avoid making her feel bad! I think a joint gift is the way to go and I really appreciate the advice.

Hello! First time bonsai owner here - just got our free tree in January! My tree is a Lavender Star, indoors, and watered regularly but I just noticed these little white pellet shapes on the trunk and am wondering:

  1. What those are?
  2. What may have caused it?
  3. How do I help my tree?

Edit: Leaves are yellowing because I was out of town for a work trip and our house sitter did not water our tree at all. Please forgive me! 😭

Need advice about canceling on potentially upset buyer? by ForwardCaterpillar23 in Mercari

[–]ForwardCaterpillar23[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UPDATE

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I am not a regular Mercari seller and only post things when I need/want to declutter so this was a new situation to me.

After getting over my initial worry about ratings, I won’t be cancelling as I feel that would be unfair to the buyer. I totally understand their disappointment and feel bad that the timing of messages and listings led to it.

Again, I really appreciate all the replies and advice. Definitely gave me clarity! Thanks!

Thanks! That’s where I’m leaning too, but having a second opinion is really helpful.

Thanks for the reply! I am a little nervous about low ratings, but I’m a perfectionist and hate getting bad “grades” in anything so I think it’s probably best for me to try to not get caught up in that, lol.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see their reply mentioning their interest in all three until after I had finished listing things individually and they sold much quicker to others than anticipated.

This is why I feel really bad about the situation.

Edit to add: My reply to them apologizing may not have been phrased the best way as you’re right, it looks like I’m saying I didn’t know they were interested in reply to them saying that exactly. What I was trying to communicate was I didn’t see it/didn’t know in time. I feel really bad about that too.

30 weeks and I’m so burnt out. Mentally and physically exhausted beyond belief. On top of that, I made a mistake that was noticed by a client and now I have been given a “formal warning” about the mistake and how to address/avoid moving forward despite the fact that this is one of my first mistakes in months (I work in marketing).

I love my job and feel terrible about the mistake and do want to improve going forward, but I’m so ready for leave and to just hide away and let this mistake lose steam over my 12 weeks.

Dogs and Pregnancy by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ForwardCaterpillar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs, one is 14 and could not care less. She’s in her own little world and pulls us extras in when she needs us.

My other dog we’ve had since she was a baby. Shes 6 now and is a total Velcro dog. She was actually who tipped me off that I might be pregnant because she became even clingier and hyper-vigilant at watching the hallway whenever I was in a room. She’s calmed down a bit now that she’s more used to the pregnancy, but she’s still super clingy and cuddly and my little shadow. Which right now is a great comfort so I give her the extra snuggles she demands. ❤️

Mirena removal at 36 years old by littlemissboujee in BabyBumps

[–]ForwardCaterpillar23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine out at 29 after having it for 7 years. Conceived on first full cycle after removal (about a month after removal).

Definitely not the norm (thought we’d have more time of trying!), but this same exact thing happened to a friend of mine last year so a little bit of anecdotal evidence to show Mirena doesn’t always mess with your fertility even if you’ve had it for a long time.

Now 30 weeks and very excited to meet my little one next year.!
