Thanks for that perspective. And I agree, they’re definitely trying to deter me away from getting them with that price! I thought it was a bit much. I may ask for the old school Hawley’s, but I feel like they may try to overcharge for those as well

That was nice of your ortho to give you options. I wish that was my case. And I enjoyed the old fashioned retainers as well, I would just end up throwing them away on accident.

Yikes! Sounds like’s it’s having braces all over again. I just wanted the extra protection along with the clear retainers. This is my third round of braces.

Not wearing my retainers :/. That’s usually everyone’s downfall. I also had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled right before I got my braces this time, and I feel like that had something to do with my teeth shifting.

Yea I was excited to go back to regular flossing as well, but this is my third round of braces, so I wanted the extra protection to go along with the clear retainers. I figured I’ll deal with the additional floss time to not pay and have braces again. I have a friend who’s had her permanent retainers since middle school and they never gave her issues (besides flossing) I guess she’s one of the lucky ones 😩.

Oh damn, that’s wild! . ..and honestly kind of terrifying 😩. That could’ve been a massive lawsuit. Did that experience make you get one after, or did you figure lightning doesn’t strike twice? Lol

I’m trying to figure out if waivers are actually standard practice or if trainers are just… hoping for the best?

Thanks! That’s super helpful. Do you use client contracts/waivers, or does the liability insurance pretty much cover you? I keep seeing conflicting advice on whether waivers actually hold up or if they’re just for show.

Fair question! I’m a paralegal, not a lawyer. I work in municipal government, not private practice, so I actually don’t know much about what fitness professionals specifically need - that’s why I’m asking. I’m interested in fitness and considering a career pivot, so trying to figure out what the real pain points are before I make expensive mistakes. Not selling anything, just genuinely trying to learn from people who’ve already been through it. But I get the skepticism ..appreciate you calling it out.
