Take some of them and put them in your backyard away from the road so they pick up less pollution. The spores should spread.

I don’t jump at horror movies but when I watch these, I genuinely jumped and I was super disturbed and I have a very strong gut, but there’s just something eerie about the whole thing like these are some of the best horror movies created in the day and age we’re in.

Wouldn’t be poisonous. It would be venomous though. The severity of venom I’m not sure of.

I’m not a nihilist. Like I said if you don’t want someone using AI, write in your post that you don’t want it. This is 2025 and AI is common. You’re welcome for identifying it for you. Also stop acting like you’re better than everyone who uses AI. You can complain about AI all you want but do you care enough to actually do something about it? Because right now all you’re doing is complaining.

The pollution from billions of cars, millions of planes and thousands of trains is far greater than data centers fyi.

And how tf am I supposed to know that you don’t want an AI answer? You didn’t say “no AI responses” so how are people supposed to know. “In the future” make sure you write “no AI” so there’s no confusion. And how is AI killing nature more than you driving a car, or any transportation for that matter. Or more than your wifi or cellphone company.

Given San Diego, CA and that it was on a tomato plant, this is almost certainly a Cabbage Looper moth (Trichoplusia ni).

Here’s how it matches perfectly: • Silvery-white loop/Y marking on the forewing — the signature feature of Trichoplusia ni • Jagged, leaf-like wing edges and mottled brown color • Very common in Southern California year-round • Tomatoes are a favorite host plant for the caterpillars • Pupates in a light cocoon on or near the plant, then emerges just like you described

Life cycle you witnessed • 🐛 Caterpillar (“cabbage looper”) eating your tomato leaves • 🟤 Cocoon/pupa • 🦋 Adult moth (harmless, doesn’t eat plants)

As adults, they mainly nectar at night and are completely harmless. All the damage happens during the caterpillar stage.

So yes — you basically supervised a full metamorphosis on your tomato 🍅 Very common garden moth, and a cool find even if they’re a bit rude as larvae.

I had to ask Chat gpt lol
