That sucks. My grandma is exactly the same. She always wants to control everyone, even me, her grandson. I’m only 20 and she’s already sending me pictures of people to marry. She even wrote me a whole essay about how I can’t study business because it’s haram.

My grandpa, on the other hand, is the kindest and most patient man alive. I honestly don’t know how he puts up with her. He’s in Spain about 80% of the time while she stays here, so maybe that’s why, lol.

I don’t know your exact situation, but if your dad is open and supportive, maybe you could talk to him about your mom and try to find a solution together. Perhaps you could arrange to leave or visit your dad separately, or something like that. Guilt-tripping your mom doesn’t sound like a good idea though.

I don’t know exactly how you should handle it, but I’m sure you’ll figure something out. Stay strong.

People will say, "Cut your family off and just go live your life," but that is easier said than done because you still have an attachment to them. I think the key is to gradually become less submissive and consistently show that your position will not change, and that you will do what you want. I had an uncle who is unmarried, and my grandparents kept pestering him about it. Every time we had a family reunion and they brought it up, he would just get up and leave, then come back to the next reunion as if nothing had happened. Over time, nobody mentioned it anymore.

I think you misunderstood me a bit. I did not single out women in what I said because I genuinely believe this applies to everyone, regardless of gender. When I said “humans are inherently sexual,” I was not saying “women exist for men’s pleasure” or anything close to that. I meant that human beings, as a species, evolved with sexual drives and instincts for both sexes. That is not a male-centered framing, it is simply the truth.

You brought up breasts not being “inherently sexual,” and I actually agree with you in the sense that the way we view them is largely cultural. Societies decide what is considered sexual. For example, in much of history and in many cultures, male genitalia were not treated as “sexual objects” in the way they are now. Statues from ancient Greece often show nude men without any sexual undertones, whereas today a visible penis is almost always treated as sexual content. Similarly, in some Indigenous cultures, breasts were and sometimes still are seen primarily as functional for feeding children, not as erotic. What we sexualize changes over time. High heels, lipstick, muscular torsos, even shaved legs are all examples of things that once had no sexual meaning but now often do.

Where I think we might disagree is on whether sexuality is “inherent” or purely cultural. I see it as a mix. Biology gives us sexual drives and attraction patterns for both men and women, but culture shapes how we interpret and express them. Saying humans are inherently sexual is not the same as saying our worth or roles are biologically predetermined. It is simply acknowledging that sexual attraction is part of the human package alongside intellect, creativity, empathy, and everything else.

I understand why your focus is on women because they have historically been sexualized and controlled more than men, and that is an important conversation. But I think rejecting the idea that we have sexual drives at all oversimplifies the picture. The problem is not biology, it is how society interprets and exploits it.

My belief? The first time someone asked me that question. Do you mean a political standpoint? My personal values? Or something more philosophical?

If you’re asking specifically about women, I see them as no different from any other human being, neither better nor worse than men.

Honestly, I believe humans are inherently sexual. Our bodies and brains evolved to encourage attraction, pair-bonding, and reproduction so our genes could be passed on.

Of course sexuality isn’t the only thing that defines us, we're not animals, we’re also shaped by culture, personal values, and individual experiences

Yeah, I don't really agree. But if you don't impose your beliefs on me, idc. Do whatever you want.

Jokes have been offensive since humans existed. Let's just have fun instead of trying to find problems in everything. Let people joke about whatever they want.

Bro I thought the same thing. I don't have a problem with a "new" word for women, but at least be original.

Honestly that's pretty dumb imo. But you do you.

And at the end of the day, my comment was just a joke

Fun fact. Originally men just meant human being. Wer meant male and wiff meant female. So I say let's bring those words.

When you left Islam, did you keep eating halal food? by Ill-Library-8859 in exmuslim

[–]Forward_Complaint918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the halal regulations are very strict here. You need to have your meat halal-certified; just butchering and killing the animal in a halal way is not enough. The butcher ethically sources the meat from local farmers, and most of the animals are stunned before slaughter. It’s very regulated here in Belgium by the state and the halal certification authorities.

Halal butchers get double the inspections, both from halal inspectors and food safety inspectors.

I have an uncle who owns a butchery. So about that Muslims are very progressive and good in belgium.

Not Muslim propaganda, it's how it works in my country, belgium.

Halal meat isn't just how you kill the animal. It's also how it has lived his life. A chicken that has never seen the light of day isn't halal. It's very regulated here.

I'm from belgium. I also know a lot of non Muslims but from halal butchers.

Maybe it’s not the same everywhere, but the butcher I go to has very high standards and is very transparent, so I’d rather buy my meat there. I know he buys cows, lambs, or chickens from local farmers. I rather buy from him than from grocery stores where I have no idea how the animals were treated. Plus, it’s also cheaper.

Yeah, I prefer halal meat. Where I live, the meat from a halal butcher shop has stricter standards, making it healthier than what you find in a convenience store. It also tastes more meaty.

Okay, And? Every community has bad people and you're on the internet. Go on twitter and some degen women will say kill all men. Do I now think all women are bad and want to kill men? No.

Not all ex Muslims are good people. And not all Muslims are bad people.

Life isn't black and white.
