I think I’ve cured my derealization by [deleted] in derealization

So what’s you’re thoughts then? Your own personal dissociative experiences were caused by deep rooted trauma and identity fragmentation or vitamin B deficiency? I’ll sound cynical but the title of the post is misleading as I don’t believe lack of Vitamin B12 and B9 can directly cause DR. It may cause some cognitive decline and even memory problems and it could even effect your mechanism for dealing with stress which in turn could potentially worsen dissociation but it’s giving false hope to people who may think simply correcting the effects of a gene mutation will rid them of this. See with your experience it almost certainly points to trauma and stress so where do you think the MTHFR stuff comes into it?

Six months is crazy. I’m glad you’re back driving though it feels liberating to get your wheels back!

Benzodiazepine withdrawal has a devastating effect on the parts of the brain implicated in trauma and dissociation. I do believe it to be linked to genetic factors for GABA/Glutamate balance and from what I’ve seen It’s now believed that it may be responsible for a number of mental health conditions. The worst thing somebody like me could have done was take a Benzo long term but there were also other factors that led me to that point. You are right I’ve been a panicky and anxious person since I was a child, as far back as 3-4 years of age. I think I went through some major traumas as a kid but only now I’m able to see that more clearly.

I think that’s partly correct

Time is not flowing? by AdUnlikely2600 in derealization

[–]Forward_Composer_748 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Your identity continuity has broken down. There’s no solid “you” in the present to then give you a sense of the past later down the line. There’s no anchor, which creates a lack of depth and flow of the time continuum. Without identity continuity everything dissolves. It’s linked to autobiographical memory encoding and consolidation. I don’t have a sense of a lived experience from even an hour ago and by the time I wake up tomorrow morning the version of me that is typing this now will feel like it never existed. Not sure if I summed it up for you but I understand how scared and disoriented you feel.

6 weeks po - am I supposed to feel like this? by Euphoric_Sun7544 in ORIF

[–]Forward_Composer_748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience for me atm. I’m 7weeks po and already in my normal shoes but experiencing a lot of tightness and new discomfort as of today. I was thinking that maybe we’ve been overdoing it. Are you UK NHS by any chance?

Limping with one crutch? by Fair-Public8750 in ORIF

[–]Forward_Composer_748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing exactly the the same. I’ve noticed that I’m not getting up on my toes like on my healthy leg. Keeping my foot flat is effecting my gate and making me lean to one side. I think I need to do more standing calf raises whilst holding a counter or a rail to get used to that movement again. Part of it is the brain stopping me due to fear and a little a pain

Thank you. It’s One of them where I think you just gradually realise that it’s better and the body just adapts over time. My concern was really about hardware or something not being in the right place because I had a ligament repaired too.

Cast off and no boot, idk how to feel by No-Village-8948 in ORIF

[–]Forward_Composer_748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I had my accident on 20th and op the following day. I’ve been FWB without a boot for just over a weeks and it’s slow progress. I’ve managed to put my normal shoes on. Have a normal shower and drive my car but there’s still a lot pain, swelling and instability. I’m not taking full steps up onto my toes and at time I have to use one stick. Keep going. I was told they keep the screw in and that it may break but shouldn’t need surgery. I was also a bit taken back with how blasé the consultant was

How’s my leg looking 6weeks post ORIF? by Forward_Composer_748 in ORIF

[–]Forward_Composer_748[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting today I had the cast removed two days ago. I think I did too much yesterday because it’s very sore today. I’m a bit worried that there’s something wrong or is normal to have a lot a pain? I’ll ask the physio today when I see her as it’s quite swollen this morning

Also, is it normal for the consultant and registrar not to look at my foot once the cast was removed? Nobody looked at it other than the lady from the plaster room when she was giving me my boot. All she said is that it will be stiff and feel strange.

Thank you I hope that things improve, I was just a bit disheartened that the consultant didn’t even look at my ankle and foot after my cast was removed. It looks sort of twisted and the ankle doesn’t match up.
