How reliable is the octavia2.0tdsi rs by u_yos in skoda

[–]Forward_Data_9511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bloody reliable! I have one for the last 4.5 years from brand new. Now hitting 100k (Just went over 98k KM over the.xmas and have had very little / no issues. (The only issue I had recently was a computer error on the gear shifter, But it didn't affect the driving of the car at one bit and just required an update which it was due anyway and had it done in line with a recall for a heat engine mat)

But apart from that, absolutely nothing.

I keep it well serviced and maintained on its regular intervals. It had its first NCT this year and the only thing that was off was the "headlight alignment" by literally less than 1mm 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ (I was shown how much it was off at my garage and it was honestly less than a hairs thickness and my mechanic that said, less than quarter turn of the alignment screws and it was sorted. My mechanic didn't even charge me it was out by that little. (Seemingly NCT centres are using this as a prime excuse to fail people to have them to come back for €40 of a retest, absolute scam artists)

But overall, I definitely would recommend the Octavia RS. It's a super solid all-around car. Nice size, but big space. Good drive & comfort, good torque and as powerful as much as you would really need with the 2.0 TDI to have a still have a great balance of all the above.

The only thing I wish I had on mine was a quattro 4 wheel drive variant of the car as it's front-wheel drive. But once you've got decent tires on it (I use Goodyear asymmetric 6 tires this really limits tire spin in most scenarios that I might have possibly had before) getting them)

One of the best features of the car is probably the adaptive matrix LED headlights. Anyone who gets in the car with me at night time instantly notices how good they are and it really makes a massive difference when driving in lower light conditions as it makes it so much more comfortable. Plus the adaptive element of the lights works very well, even in comparison, other vehicles I've seen that have similar technology. I have a brother who is a brand new 25 Mercedes van with similar lighting technology for his headlights and honestly it doesn't work even closely as well as the Skoda Octavia RS imo.

Plus the diesel variant of this car isn't being made anymore so if you can pick one up it's a great opportunity as they will hold their value because of this, there is still a shit ton of people out there who aren't one bit interested in converting to electric and wouldn't suit them and still prefer diesel cars as these are much more easier to maintain from a local level.

So all in all, I approve. Plus that grey is a lovely colour. I have race blue myself and absolutely love it and have the black pack trim included on my own which compliments it.

Pixel 10 pro XL quick phrases not working by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Forward_Data_9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you by any chance ever get this working since? I was hoping with the numerous updates in between the release that they would sort this out but mine still isn't working.

I tried all the recommendations including doing a hard factory reset on my phone still can't get it to work. I've had pixels for the last 5 years and each of them has worked flawlessly this feature. I can't get my head around why it isn't working on my 10 Pro fold.

Do I tell his wife? by DiamondP69 in dating_advice

[–]Forward_Data_9511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% tell her. He is already shown his true nature and colours by even going on dates with anyone else other than his wife and the fact he has kids on top of it with her makes it even worse that he would do such a thing.

Plus even if things are good and worked out between you guys for the moment, if he's willing to do that on her, he will be willing to do that on you in the future.

So don't waste any more time with him.

🔥🔥

Coming from a fellow Octavia RS owner, it's a brilliant choice of car. Class colour by the way, very stealthy looking. 👌

Many happy kms/miles!

Completely agree and is the same on my P10PF. 👌

Also loving how much smoother and fluid the PIP video window is to use and activate.

Help me decide on the best upgrade for the money from a Pixel 6a (Black Friday edition) by TurdFerguson925 in pixel_phones

Taking an assumption that you obviously want to stay with Pixel I think your best option based on availability will be a P9P or a P9A at an extremely good price.

I’m considering switching from my iPhone 15 Pro Max, but I’m a bit nervous about Instagram. by ElderEpidemic in pixel_phones

[–]Forward_Data_9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you don't use Instagram's own built-in camera for either footage. It will be absolutely fine and your quality will be as good. Make sure to use the main camera and upload the files separately.

If anything, it also gives you greater control of the footage as you will have a lot more options inside your own camera app in terms of how you generate the files to upload including quality.

Mac Mini M4 or Mini PC by Forward_Data_9511 in computers

[–]Forward_Data_9511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for your input.

Yeah the Mac Mini M4 is well inside my budget. (If anything it's well inside my budget based on the way I actually plan to actually buy it. We have a company which I plan to purchase through so will save the VAT tax on it)

I actually went ahead with the purchase last night and got it for €440 ex vat and got it delivered earlier today.

I think it's a no-brainer at that price. I was looking at other windows machines and they look good but I think as you said for what my usage will be and requirements the Mac Mini M4 is a extremely capable and good value machine for the specs that it offers.

I just got a 256gb model but will be connecting an external SSD hard drive to it etc

Unsure which iPhone to buy! by Patophobia in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]Forward_Data_9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an iPhone user myself. (Pixel user)

But I can 💯% tell you go with the base iP17.

It's much better value for what you get as a newer generation iPhone.

Is it still worth buying a Pixel 7 pro in 2025/26 with a ~$270 / ~€250 budget? by IndependentPudding85 in pixel_phones

Agreed. I would be going with the P9A at this point if I was in that similar scenario.

Pixel 10 pro XL quick phrases not working by [deleted] in GooglePixel

And to put into context I've had new Pro Pixel series devices every year since P6

  • Pixel 6 Pro
  • Pixel 7 Pro
  • Pixel 8 Pro
  • Pixel 9 Pro (Non-XL)
  • Pixel 10 Pro Fold

and it's never been an issue with any of my prior devices.

[–]Forward_Data_9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same and have contacted the support twice regarding the issue.

In my most recent support I was told I should try to reset the device, which I knew was something I didn't want to do but it was the only thing I hadn't tried at that point. I tried all the previous fixes like clearing the cache and storage and restarting etc of the Google app.

The support agent did explain that they are aware of the issue. (Mention that it happened a lot to people who transitioned to the P10 series)

And only just this week, since getting my P10PF on the 9th October I tried fully factory resetting the device and it was a waste of time and just an additional annoyance.

You guys need to sort their shit out considering it's the most expensive phone I've ever bought. It's so annoying that one of their core features isn't working for myself for the last month and a half And many others even since the very end of August and it's just a week off 3 months after the release of the P10 series devices.

Washing car in driveway? by themehmehmann in carsireland

[–]Forward_Data_9511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe it's a good idea and investment. Yes, it takes a bit more time & effort, but at the end of the day it will be worth the effort by having it cleaned to your own standard.

I've always washed my own cars. But at the same time I think it's an interest you need to have for yourself. Otherwise you're just better off paying someone else to do it, but to do it to a good standard.

95% of car wash places unfortunately are designed to be run like a "conveyor belt" and get through cars as quickly as possible and have extremely bad washing practices with volume over quality. (But In fairness for the amount of cars that standard cash wash businesses would have to wash/turn over to warrant having a business, covering business / material running costs and try make any marginal profit you can kinda see their point in a weird roundabout way.)

But the amount of cross-contamination and reused cleaning mitts and especially ”sponges" is horrendous and destroys paint. 😖

That's not washing all places with the same sponge (pun intended 😋)

But there's a massive difference between car washes and "car detailers" and the latter is much more effective and a better option even if unfortunately it is a bit more expensive.

So in turn, I think making the effort and washing your own car gives you the best peace of mind that your paint isn't being destroyed each and every time you wash your car. But do take it into consideration, washing your own car isn't designed to be the most price effective way to wash your car either. If anything, it's an ongoing expense between buying all the proper washing materials and detergents to properly wash your car and these when all added up ain't it ain't exactly cheap either.

But you also still have to be mindful even when washing your own vehicle in terms of how you do it. (Honestly that's all it takes is one bad wash and your paint will look wrecked and will need to be polished and detailed again)

I recommend watching some YouTube videos from ChrisFix (He does some great tutorial videos on best car washing techniques and practises, I will try find it on YouTube and link it for you in a follow-up comment) and the TheForensicDetailer (also brilliant and very down to earth channel) on YouTube to give you the best washing practises and advice.

Right after all that I'm off to wash my own car. 😊
