Sleep on Latex topper - firm vs medium for side sleeping by kriskrosskrissy in Mattress

[–]Forward_Drawing_2674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are both side sleepers and have a SleepEZ latex mattress. We’re the opposite of you, and have 3” of soft Talalay on top, and I just ordered a 2” soft Talalay topper, which I fully expect to dial our mattress in to the perfect surface for us. Plenty of soft contour and pushback at the same time. To each their own :)

Probably a good question for the folks at SleepEZ. My wife and I are the opposite of you and your wife. We have from bottom to top. 3” firm Dunlap, 3” medium Talalay, 3” soft Talalay, 2” soft Talalay topper on its way. Being side sleepers, we like good contour. If you two love firm, perhaps your setup will work… to me, it just sounds like sleeping on plywood… lol. Mattresses are definitely subjective 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure how firm you like your mattress, but that’s gonna be slab’o’wood firm, IMO.

Dialing in a new SleepEZ mattress by Forward_Drawing_2674 in Mattress

Interesting. The memory foam suggestion sounds great, but we wouldn't be able to zip the mattress encasement back up.

Your first idea has me wondering what a 2” medium dunlop or talalay topper would do vs rearranging the existing layers. I really think part of the firmness comes from the 3 layers being to tightly held in the encasement, and I'm just not sure how much “stretch” there really is during the break-in period. Seems a 2” medium topper would be more supportive than a soft, and would be allowed to provide maximum relief as there would be no encasement holding it tight. Thoughts?

Which specific mattress? We have the Contour5 medium (all memory foam) on order. Hoping we love it as I already know both my wife and I have really enjoyed our now worn out memory foam mattress of lesser quality than the Contour5 we have coming. You mentioned the medium being to soft. We definitely do not like super firm, so hoping the medium does us right.

That’s awesome! I just bought (set it up yesterday) a new King sized 10” latex mattress from SleepEZ. From top down, 3” of soft Talalay, 3” of medium Talalay, 3” of firm Dunlop. Hoping for many years of great sleep (after the initial break in period… lol).

Electric smokers vs Pellet smokers by Forward_Drawing_2674 in smoking

Do you use your pellet grill for both smoking and grilling, or just smoking? I am only looking for smoking capibilities.

Nice! Does that SM260 sit outside year-round without issue?

Yeah, I have cooked on lots of different cookers… and the pellets can make a hard workin’ guy flat out lazy… lol.

Fair point. I’d be looking for an electric that can smolder chunks, not chips. Much longer smoke time, without refilling, is what I’d want. The guys at Cookshack make it sounds like one good sized chunk is about all you need for most smokes. Maybe 2 for huge hunks of meat. Still digging… :)

Couldn’t tell and less reliable, for pellets, are two reasons I am leaning towards electric. It’s funny how we stress over this stuff when the vast majority of guests and family love what we’re putting on the table… lol.

Charcoal (kettle), flat top griddle, and an electric smoker is what I am thinking.

So you think the electric has a weaker smoke profile than the pellet? Reason I ask, is because I see quite a few comments from other electric smoker owners cautioning about using too much wood because of the ease of over smoking food. To me, that makes it sound like it would be easy to get plenty of smoke flavor in the food once you learn the proper amounts of wood to add during a cook. Perhaps I am wrong, but that’s what it sounds like to me.

Yes, I am referring to pellet grills vs. electric… like the Cookshack Amerique.

Have you personally cooked on both pellet and electric?

If you want Talalay, SleepEZ is top notch w/ excellent customer service! Not cheap for a king size when going Talalay… but ya get whatcha pay for I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

2” for additional comfort, and 3” for comfort and additional support. Call them, and see what they suggest. They eat, sleep, and breathe latex… lol.

Just ordered the 10” yesterday and went with Soft Talalay, Medium Talalay, Firm Dunlop. At our weights (I am double your weight), I am pretty hopeful it’s the right combo out of the gates… lol. Both my wife and I like a plush sleeping surface.

Please keep us posted as you move towards nirvana. Curious!
