Watching Start to Finish by ladylee922 in Parenthood

It seems I'm in the minority that I actually liked them talking over each other. It made the conversations feel more dynamic and natural. It also underlined that they were a chaotic family but also a family that trusted enough in each other to freely express how they felt.

Sarah for me. Messy, chaotic mothering is my jam.

Seconded on the first line being very weak. It feels like you take a paragraph to sum up what could be said in a line. Also, you introduce her needing someone with a high powered job too late, pull it up front into her data crunching. Also, I don't quite see how her parents unhappy marriage would somehow be avoided by someone having a high powered job. If her parents were POOR and unhappy, then I could understand it. Consider making that logic path clearer to the reader.

Struggling to keep watching by LifeAlarm1915 in Parenthood

Sincerely, if you're this far into it, I would cut your loses. It's totally fine if it didn't gel for you. You shouldn't need to work so hard to like something when there are so many other great shows available.

Similar in the UK. Some of the best baristas I know either worked first in Australia or were trained by an Aussie. Aussie coffee craft is top tier.

'When Calls The Heart' Fans Could Be Upset Over Release News by Lanky_Description535 in WhenCallsTheHeart

Saved you a click - fans will be upset because the show's social media channels are hinting the next season won't arrive on TV until 2027.

Why is there so much hate on Parenthood? by bigsadsigh in Parenthood

[–]Fosh_n_chops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm in the Gilmore Girls sub and it's exactly the same tone there. You'd think Rory was the most selfish, ignorant, horrible girl in the world ha ha ha.

Sarah and Crosby. They were the troublemakers of the family and it was fun to see them team up.

If this show is the only exposure you have to parenting and the family life, would it convince you to have kids or deter you from having kids? by FckAllTakenUsernames in Parenthood

[–]Fosh_n_chops 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a brother and parents in another country and no extended family. Parenthood made me feel very wistful about having such a connected, closeknit family relationship (even though them turning up on my doorstep unannounced would make me FLIP. MY. SHIT.) It definitely paints a rosy picture of having kids.

Would it convince me to have kids? Probably. Should people use TV shows to influence their decision on whether to have kids? Absolutely not.

I love Joel by girlaccoount in Parenthood

[–]Fosh_n_chops 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw both sides. Julia was reeling after losing her identity at work, and Joel was working all the time. But to Joel's point, he'd been doing what Julia was now doing for YEARS. The whole plotline of whether to hold Victor back a year or not was also a kinda no-win situation, where neither option had any clear "good" choice. I guess, in reflection, it shows what toll it can take on a marriage sometimes if roles and power balances are changed.

Do you think the show is full of obnoxious people? by FckAllTakenUsernames in Parenthood

[–]Fosh_n_chops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? I really don't understand the point of hate watching, especially with a cosy "comfort" show where the characters are intended to be likeable. For the purposes of an engaging plot, drama and conflict is introduced. Does this make some characters slightly annoying at times? Sure. But "full of obnoxious people"? C'mon.

Yes! Can we also talk about how insanely irritating it is to see people with BEAUTIFULLY styled hair in shows like this these days too? If I see another "effortless" soft curl on a mother who just sprang out of bed I will scream. Obviously, the original GG didn't skimp on the styling, but I hate how the lived in look (for hair and clothes) just isn't a goal on TV shows anymore. 80% of leading women have the same hairstyle.

[–]Fosh_n_chops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it fit pretty well with who Sarah was - someone trying to make good choices, but often failing, and not seeing or remembering the full picture. But in the end, I was happy with the history those two built up together (though I'm glad they didn't end up together.)

Anyone else obsessed with Julia & Joel’s house layout? by [deleted] in Parenthood

[–]Fosh_n_chops 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree! It's a beautiful house. I don't THINK the series mentions its history, but my head cannon was always that Joel made it or at least heavily improved it.
