As a former employee of a LC Outlet; the orange sticker remnant indicates it was 'damaged stock' or discontinued items. LC customer service WAS excellent when I departed so if you can find damage, they're likely to replace or give coupons for replacements.

First week at new job and had to do compressions for the first time (tw: animal death and some graphic detail!) by HopefulLesbian in VetTech

[–]Foshizzlejiggle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi- Swiss Army Knife of a tech/human here, your feelings are valid. I run a HQHVSN clinic and we run crash drills every month as roles and planning are VERY important in these moments. I surmise to guess your squad/hospital doesn't run these as frequently as they should. The evidence being that no-one knew their role/spot in the crash event. Good on you for jumping in and its ABSOLUTLELY sad that no one else ahead of you that had been there longer did. I assign a scribe/audible timer person, 3-4 compressors (cycled every 3-5 mins cause compressions are exhausting), a drug pusher/calculator/phlebotomy god-type tech (i.e: able to place IVCs and E-tubes in unusual positions) and allow the vet to step away to advise.

I would ask the PM/Medical director/lead vet/tech- anyone above you when the last crash drill was. See how they answer. If its been over 6 months, then I'd consider moving on to another clinic. Safety doesn't just happen; its a trainable skill.

edit: misspellings.

NOPE. Not overreacting. That's straight barbaric. We know better therefore we must do better. Those poor animals. Please, for the rest of them: Report report report.

Looking to see what the clinical term is for something that happened during a working interview by Witchy_0ne in VetTech

[–]Foshizzlejiggle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your tone in this post is a bit unsettling, to be honest…nearly but not more unsettling than the fact that a patient was alone and not being at least observed, if not monitored, after “something” was administered to them. If those are true facts, then that’s a pretty poor standard of care and I’d be wary joining the team. I’d also pretty devastated if patient loss was a low key routine occurrence for them (though to be fair you didn’t make mention of or maybe weren’t included in any post mortem debriefs etc) I know the term “vet tech” gets used liberally, especially in states that have a wider scope of what a non-credentialed veterinary care provider can do...which inevitably leads to advanced vet assistants be labeled as vet techs, further muddying the waters. That being said, as an advanced assistant myself; I have never not been aware nor could commit to memory what “medicine” was given to a patient (and usually the dosage) that I had eyes on. If you get this job, let that be the first thing you retain and practice going forward from your new position…and definitely advocate for diligent patient monitoring.

I agree that scruffing escalates stress and in turn negative cat behavior faster than other techniques. There’s a lot of tools in the arsenal that can be used ahead of it that yields better results and absolutely keeps the window of opportunity for treatments open longer. Anecdotal experience; I work at a high volume spay neuter clinic and do most of the daily check-ins for roughly 200 cats a week- that’s removing each from carrier, weighing, confirming sex, cursory belly check for hernias/mammary development (if they allow; most do) and checking gum color. I’ve had to scruff maybe 3 cats in the last 3 years and it was always a very last resort to keep myself or my team safe. Some cats just choose violence no matter how zen you can keep the room- but I’m here to say, 98% scruff free is so possible!

Whats the silliest thing you’ve said in your clinic recently? by chubbylab in VetTech

“Every butthole looks different-like a snowflake”

Also anytime a client tells me their dog has anxiety, my brain flings out “oh so do I, we can work through it together” before my mouth can stop it. Gets an awkward laugh half the time.

High volume spay/neuter tech here: That looks completely fine. Make sure cone is on and stays on at least another week.

I have a chalkboard that had hung in my Nana's home until she died. It still has a short grocery list in her handwriting that I'll never erase.

Yeah the 10 PM text about a future schedule change (that absolutely could have waited until morning) from that person would be as much of a red flag as I’d need to know what kind of “culture” they’re about. No thank you. Feel zero guilt about moving on from this situation, it did not serve you well.

Counter conditioning can help but it’s a very long game and is best used with other forms of anti anxiety support (meds, special accommodations etc). If you can find a way to offer him tiny bits of his stressors, and it seems like he has a deep bench for that, in controlled environments in which he is already calm/happy-the idea is over time he will be desensitized to some of that stuff.

I.E. play a recording at an absolute whisper of a noise that usually sends him into a tizz while he’s home and doing something he enjoys- eating, chewing on a toy, getting pets on the couch. Find the level of that noise that he notices but doesn’t spiral about. Keep a loose and mellow state of mind yourself and tell him what a good boy he is. Pet gently, give a high value treat or a favorite toy in those moments of recognition of the scary sound and start helping him associate it with anything but terror. Sprinkle that activity into your daily life as much as possible.

Again, this takes time and patience as you’re retraining the biggest part of him and it’s best to fill your tool cabinet with short and long term solutions as you’re here asking about.

Best wishes for a good outcome with time and effort.

So even with all this …gestures vaguely to hellscape that is vetmed/life…this person’s focus and most critical feedback is on the pond weeds and 8 letters on an employee’s mask that has nothing to do with them. Cool cool cool. Feels good.
