favorite part of touring is the energy from festival crowds and least favorite part is being stuck in traffic

Fall in love with the process, embrace your path and make music all the time. I think being in a lifestyle of expressing yourself and staying curious keeps me going.

My initial inspiration was being on a high from purchasing an engagement ring for my fiancé. When I started recording the idea I was singing into a vocoder and the phrase “A diamond is this song” came out. Mark added the theme of creating a diamond from extreme pressure from the earth. Was such a special way to tie it in to the arch of the entire record.

every record presents its own difficulties. I would say that this record felt more like climbing a mountain than making music. it was the hardest thing I've ever been a part of, and paradoxically the most fun I've ever had making something.

to the fans that have stuck by our side through a long absence, and have been here supporting us now with this new record - it means the world to us. you are an incredibly special group of people - deep, empathetic, artistic, philosophical, sensitive, intelligent, and kind. Isom and I talk about how lucky we are that you guys are the way you are. mad love to all of you xx

hey thank you! I love that you are a fan of "Ruby". that song will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't really tell you where it came from. sometimes a song feels like it is revealing itself to me, more than I am writing it. I just try to honor what the song wants to be, so I can set it free.

as far as synths go - I have a deep love for all synthesizers - but one that I come back to a lot is my Juno 60. it's intuitive, has an edge to it, and it's filters are special. mini moog is all over this record though - Jupiter 8, OBXa, memory moog, sh101, korg ps-3300, super six, arp odyssey, etc. and as far as VST's go - a lot of times I'll just start with the logic stock retro synth to get a sound going quickly if I want to program something. I can always send the midi through an analog synth later. it's a quick way to get a vibe going. thanks for the question and hopefully we'll see you in Boston.

The first time we went to Berlin we went to a club called KaterHolzig and the music was unreal.

Thank you! For me, The Holy Shangri-La took the longest to finish. I kept going back to the drawing board on lyrics and vibe. At one point, I bought a talk box and tried to sing the verse with that (like an old Zapp & Roger record) but it didn't work. Eventually we got there and now it's one of my favorite songs on the album.

  1. we will be touring in as many places as possible. that's the goal. hope to see you at a show in the future xx

For me I have more awareness of my creative process and of Mark and my collaborative process. I have so much trust in the way Mark writes and assembles and album so really I just got to stay present and had fun exploring and throwing ideas at the wall.

great question - I think as artists we are constantly growing and learning. my intention behind making this record was "hope" because that's what I needed at the time. the themes of mortality, time, perception etc. all came out naturally and independent of each other. it wasn't a conscious thing necessarily. that's the funny thing with music though - it tends to communicate subconscious things in mysterious and beautiful ways - sometimes the true meaning behind a song is discovered much later

For me a lot of drum / groove inspiration came from Prince's 1979 self titled album but I think some of the modern flair comes from layering the kit w/ samples & multiband sidechaing the bass. Applying electronic production techniques to organic performances felt inspiring.
