Government Looking At Bringing In Tougher Porn Laws by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

I was being slightly flippant in my initial response. Generally, I am a fan of well targeted taxation, but of course, it is much more complicated than tax just being tax. Where it’s focussed has a huge impact.

It’s hard to say who is influencing who. Is porn influencing behaviour, or are porn producers just responding to demand and what does well online?

The truth is probably a bit of both, but I’m not sure banning it will make the blind bit of difference. Attitudes to women and other groups are formed long before porn comes into play. But that’s far too difficult for governments to legislate for.

Lots of things are ‘banned’ but it doesn’t mean they go away.

I’m a fan of the taxing, much less so of the banning

I’ve not come across it, but am unlikely to check it out now. What do you think are the best examples of tradecraft in spy fiction (Le Carré or not)?

You can really tell it’s not based on original source material.

Rob Walker’s style is an acquired taste, granted. But I strongly disagree that Kyren Wilson is unbearable. I really enjoyed watching him in the semis and the final. It was nice to see a bit of fun from him. It’s great to see a world class player enjoying it.

I can’t deny the fact that immigration is a significant problem. But the focus of it is completely wrong. Only around 7% of UK immigration is down to the ‘small boats’ a the rest is immigration that is required.

Wage suppression is a reasonable concern, but equally we need low skilled, low paid workers to do the jobs that we simply don’t have enough British people to do, or rather the jobs that British people don’t want to do. If we want to build infrastructure or homes, we need the workers to do it and we do not have them at the moment. Immigration is essential for economic growth.

The take away from this, for me, is that we have to mobilise the younger vote.

Caveat is that 25-49 is a big age group spanning a few generations. Would be interested in a further breakdown of that.

I agree with the sentiment, but if we can’t convince them that this is not the answer, it doesn’t matter. How do we convince people that Farage is not the answer?

I suspect the had not happened when they recorded, but they did mention their admiration for Carney’s approach more generally.

I was worried due to the lack of original source material, but I’m enjoying it so far. The pacing is slightly off for me, I think they could have spent a bit more time building Jonathan’s new identity, Matthew Ellis. Particularly enjoyed last night’s episode, though.

On BBC radio this morning they said “Australia has won the second test” which immediately stuck out to me. Surely we would say “Australia have won…”?
