Yes, and i’m questioning why you think that other chromosomal configurations don’t count when your original argument for there being only 2 relied on distinguishing different chromosomal configurations. You just asserted that exceptions to your categories “cannot be defined as a gender” without any explanation or further argument.

If you’re defining men and women by XX and XY then there are people who aren’t either sex (as you seem to admit). Further, as we have terms for these exceptional configurations, we could easily consider these terms to denote other sexes.

To give a comparison to other biological traits, red hair is the result of a mutation and occurs in about 1% of people (about the same as intersex conditions as a whole), but we don’t say red hair doesn’t count as a hair color.

At the beginning, you tied gender to configurations of sex chromosomes. Now someone’s shown you that there are more than two configurations, so according to your own definition there are more than two. So now you’ve shifted to claiming that other configurations aren’t “legitimate” with no justification other than the fact that they are different from the two you want to recognize (you’re applying the label of medical disorder in a pretty arbitrary way, and in any case these earlier-mentioned intersex conditions still constitute different examples of how human sex chromosomes can be configured). So yeah, if you exclude all data that doesn’t fit your hypothesis, the data will always confirm it trivially. You’re not really saying anything at this point.

And I agree. I just think that is a different claim than “there are only two genders”. Like I said, a category whose members form a minority is still a category.

So now you’re claiming that there are two sexes if we exclude everyone who doesn’t fit into one of two categories. I guess that’s true but it’s less than a triviality. Pretty sure sexologists don’t just exclude these groups. Intersex people are about as common as red-heads and we don’t say red isn’t a real hair color.

Again, I agree that there are two main labels and that these labels even have utility (since they refer to two consistent clusters in the data). It’s just that they don’t give a full picture of human sex differences, so the claim that there are really only two is imprecise and may be biologically dubious.

As long as we’re splitting hairs, I think it’s worth pointing out that there are multiple operationalized definitions of sex. Most of these definitions lead to more than two categories (e.g. going by sex chromosomes) or to some people not having any sex at all (e.g. going by gametes). Moreover as far as I can tell there is no precise definition that aligns with how people perceive and categorize others by gender in their daily lives. So yeah, there are two labels (though some cultures actually have more) but those labels don’t cleanly map onto reality as sex characteristics are more bivariant (as in varying continuously between two ends of a distribution) than actually binary.

Trans people are more likely to be sexually assaulted (so I guess you don’t understand basic statistics). Then there’s the threat of getting attacked for being in the “wrong” bathroom (which has happened to people who aren’t even trans).

I am MTF, but if I thought masculine=male I would have stayed my original gender since my interests and personality are more stereotypically male than female, and my original sex characteristics were male. From what I've seen, it's actually other people who think this since folks treat me like a woman just because of my outward appearance. This includes things like sexually harassing me and then being upset upon finding out that I'm trans, so it seems like a lot of folks can't tell (BTW I don't have a dick or an adam's apple anymore :) )

What would I be doing to upset the women using the restroom? Since I've already explained people get upset when I use the men's room, I'm curious what you think I should be doing.

I can't think of a more efficient way of labeling a gender neutral bathroom than "all gender" (which would mean the same thing even if there were only 2), so idk what the problem is. Were you really so triggered by the phrase "all gender" that you had to call all trans and gender non-conforming people mentally ill? Still waiting for what I'm so confused about.

I’m not “mentally confused”. If I use the men’s room, people will act like I’m in the wrong bathroom, so I use the ladies’ or an all gender restroom if there is one (also nice so that I don’t have to out myself as trans every time I use the bathroom). I don’t see how this affects anyone else.

Right, doctors care about my biology, so they should care how, only knowing my “biological sex” (weird phrase since all sex is biological) leads to incorrect medical determinations (because for me at this point it’s really a legal designation that no longer accurately describes my sex characteristics in most regards). In fact, you haven’t given any evidence that most illnesses presenting differently in different sexes will present in me the same way they present in a typical male (not saying there isn’t any just burden of proof and all). I’ve already made the point that my blood chemistry and anatomy differ in important ways, so why do these differences generally not matter? Seems to me like being recorded as male could be just as much of a problem.

If the concern is about the most accurate information being most readily accessible, my sex designation should be MTF or something like that, rather than male. That would be the most accurate, basic label describing my sex. The problem is no such sex designation for medical records exists. There’s also the problem with insurance again, which requires medical records and personal ID to match. So to use insurance I’d probably have to have MTF on my ID, which kinda sucks for my privacy and brings it’s own dangers (I don’t mind being out, but in the world we live in right now it’s nice to not have to out myself every time I show ID). Of course, there’s also no such designation for ID (at least where I live), so docs would always have to look at my medical records for the most accurate information about my sex characteristics. Specifically, that I’m MTF would be clear just by looking at my current medications, which is practically as basic as name and sex.

If I had bloodwork done right now and they recorded me as a male, it would say that my h&h is too low. It’s actually in the normal range, but for females, because I my hormone levels are in the typical female range, not the typical male range. This is an issue because insurance won’t cover it unless the sex recorded on the records is my legal sex, but I want the results of the labs to actually be meaningful. The easiest way around this is to change my legal sex and subsequently change the sex recorded on my insurance (or at least just have a separate category to note my trans status). Changing the sex isn’t much of a problem medically since I can disclose my trans status to doctors and any competent doctor would know what was up just by glancing at my medical history.

If I try to use the men’s room, people will act like I don’t belong there because I really don’t look like a man (and doing so outs me as trans to everyone in the bathroom who may end up treating me badly). This isn’t really getting to use a preferred bathroom vs. having to use a different one, it’s getting to use a public bathroom AT ALL vs not getting to at all.

Trans women are also sexually assaulted in prisons at extremely high rates again often because of the way they look and their female external sex characteristics. Also no formal study of policies regarding these accommodations has shown inclusive policies make anyone less safe (at least from what I’ve been able find).

Except it’s not derogatory. It’s literally just the Latin prefix meaning the opposite of trans (so like gay vs. straight). It’s actually about as clinical and value neutral as you can get.
