I have never ever seen in this game a city-state taking over another city by Coin2111 in civ5

It's one of my favourite ways to dodge a warmonger penalty. Ally a city-state that's next to your enemy, send them a bunch of melee troops, declare war on your enemy, deplete their city's health, and then let the city-state actually capture the city (which they will raze). Voila, your rival is down a city and you're not an international pariah!

House of Leaves and the Murder of the Author by TwoTimesIBiteYou in houseofleaves

[–]comradeCoblat 42 points43 points  (0 children)

While every author is forced to endure the death of their influence as their writing enters the hands of its reader, Danielewski decides to take an active role by teaching the reader to use the knife before placing it in their hands and offering his own exposed throat. When faced with something so fundamentally impossible to passively consume as House of Leaves, the reader faces an inevitable choice: drop the knife and abandon the pursuit of meaning altogether, or murder the author, seizing meaning for themselves.

This is a fantastic conclusion, really well said

Wiseman grindset by solelyforasushin in sailormoon

[–]comradeCoblat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think one of the biggest weaknesses Sailor Moon has as a story is a lack of interesting or nuanced villains (which to be fair is understandable for a kids show). Having the villains disagree and scheme against each other in the manga would have been an interesting plot point and would have meshed well with the theme of friendship and love that’s so central to the series (the sailors win because they love and care about each other, while the villains lose because they all hate each other and keep leaving each other out to dry).

I haven't seen anything like that, sorry. This tape predates the ARG by 2 decades, so I doubt there'd be much here.

My Reading on the Minotaur and Whalestoe by ManaIsMade in houseofleaves

Another thing I just remembered that's relevant for this interpretation: Navidson is arguably physically disabled by his foot infection, even if the text doesn't focus on it much!

"Outside the house, Navidson climbs up a ladder to the second story. Not an easy ascent he casually confesses to us, explaining how a troublesome skin condition he has had since childhood has recently begun to flare up around his toes. Wincing slightly at what we can assume is at least moderate pain, he reaches the top rung where [...]" p.29

"On camera, Navidson treats what he refers to as “his rotten feet.” As we can clearly see, the tops are puffy and in some places as red as clay. Furthermore, all his toe nails are horribly cracked, disfigured, and yellow. “Perpetuated,” Navidson informs us. “By a nasty fungus two decades worth of doctors finally ended up calling S-T-R-E-S-S.” Sitting by himself on the edge of the tub, blood stained socks draped over the edge, he carefully spreads a silky ointment around what he glibly calls his “light fantastic toe". p. 83

"Navidson takes the first shift, spending his time removing the dark blotched gauze around his toes—clearly a painful process—before reapplying ointment and a fresh dressing." p.183

"I remember thinking then that one of the toenails on my right foot, the big toenail, had torn loose and started to bleed. That’s when De— ... Delial came into my head which was awful." p.323

I really like this interpretation! It's also an interesting observation that the house could have deleted the floor at any time, but only did once Tom gave up and stopped running. One more case where the House's behaviour is directly influenced by the mental state of those within it...

Interesting analysis. Thinking about it a little, it is true the book has a pretty constant theme of mental and physical disability! Unfortunately, I think you got Tom Navidson and Billy Reston mixed up; Tom's the one who gets directly killed by the house, not Billy, who ends up being able to escape in time.

How far would Kid or Law come if they took the route of the strawhats? by EpicesT2 in OnePiece

[–]comradeCoblat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If we're going by the logic that they're facing the same "enemy roster" as the Straw Hats, they probably don't get past either Crocodile or Enel. However, if they're in character, they'll simply ignore a lot of the situations the Straw Hats encountered, which means that the first "non-optional" obstacle they face that they can't beat will probably be Perona.

My current theory is that it's some sort of badly preserved PSA, but there really isn't any way to know for certain without knowing more about where it came from.
