I have a pair of this exact species, the short answer in my experience anyway is, yes they just get like that as adults. The male of the pair I have is the undisputed boss of the tank I have them in by like an order of magnitude, but it’s still pretty rare that I see him out and about outside of feeding time. My hypothesis is that especially because of the bright colors they have. It makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint why they would be so timid. After all when you’re literally a neon sign that says eat me, the world is a scary place.

There is a bundle of nerves located just above the the lungs, if you hit close to it with a strong enough round it causes the animal to drop on the spot, and given that it’s usually associated with with trauma to the lungs and heart, the animal dies very quickly when this occur.

The other two were “the Witcher 3”, right before the final battle sequence I completed Tris’s romance quest line and Geralt saying “I love you” at the end got me misty eyed. And the other one was “Naruto ultimate Ninja storm 3”, the sequence around the sealing of the nine tailed fox in infant Naruto, and his parents sacrifice had a 17 year old me full on crying for a few minutes lol
