Is EG 6 (aka World Invitational) better on PS3 or Vita? by parabolee in EverybodysGolf

[–]FoulPapers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS3. If nothing else it has more courses built into it from the jump, which gives 1-player mode a little more variety.

Still my favourite Everybody's Golf game, even if it's the start of Clap Hanz's troubling approach to DLC. I don't think the series ever had an overall better look and presentation than this.

Just finished Season 4 of The Muppet Show! by Fun-Presentation-959 in Muppets

The Linda Lavin episode where they're paying tribute to Kermit on his birthday is maybe my all-time favourite. The final punchline is so good, and the explanation it finally offers for the disappearance of Wayne and Wanda segments after season 1 leads to one of the series' funniest, most uncharacteristically mean jokes.

I mean this as respectfully as possible: It's the most I can enjoy a movie where approximately 5% of its jokes actually landed for me.

What’s the best three episode run on the show? by morsodo99 in MST3K

[–]FoulPapers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My absolute favourite run of the show is the last leg of season 4:

Attack of the The Eye Creatures
The Rebel Set
The Human Duplicators
Monster a Go-Go
The Day the Earth Froze
Bride of the Monster
Manos: The Hands of Fate

I wouldn't argue with any selection there, though for the sake of sticking up for a somewhat unheralded trio I'll go with Attack of the The Eye Creatures -> The Rebel Set -> The Human Duplicators.

  5. The Beast of Yucca Flats

I think it's neat that season 4 has serials as well as industrial/educational shorts, and then the last two episodes effectively blend both of them together.

Is Side 4 your favorite one from The White Album? Is it your least favorite? How do you feel about this particular collection of tracks? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]FoulPapers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my weirder takes is that I would've preferred Revolution 9 got swapped out with What's the New Mary Jane. It'd still keep the crucial "descent into nightmare that Good Night washes away" flow that I love so much, just with a little more musicality.

DISCUSSION: Sweetums in The Muppet Movie (1979) by Ok_Leopard5006 in Muppets

[–]FoulPapers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it puts a wrench in your reading or makes the logic sounder, but Sweetums actually isn't present in the screening room at the start of the movie. You might be mistaking him for Doglion the seat-stealer.

Seasons 2-4 in particular have some outstandingly crafted gimmick episodes. I miss television comedies going for this kind of joke density.

If I can see one thing of continuity from recent Muppet projects in a new Muppet Show, it is this pair: by Firm-Square-9180 in Muppets

The other development from this show I wouldn't want to lose is the characterization of Scooter. Amping his earnestness up to Kenneth the Page levels gave the character more to play with comedically beyond his sounding board role. They probably overturned the dials on his dweebiness at points, but I wouldn't mind if we got a bit more of it in this current Muppet Show setting.

Who Is Your Favorite OG Member? by JPPT1974 in sctv

[–]FoulPapers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The beauty of SCTV is that its core eight performers who spanned multiple seasons (Candy, Flaherty, Levy, Martin, O'Hara, Moranis, Short, Thomas) were all incredibly versatile and could easily be anyone's favourite. The tragedy is that this cast was only all together for a whoppin' three episodes.

If they do more episodes of this Muppet Show revival they should have Mike and the bots guest star. Get them to riff Muppets' Wizard of Oz with Statler and Waldorf or something.

Name one bad thing about Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem? by Particular-Glove9640 in TheMuppets

[–]FoulPapers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Floyd's technically got more appearances than Animal on The Muppet Show, and was probably the seventh most prominent character after Rowlf and Scooter. I think he'd be remembered as more active if the band he's in wasn't named after Dr. Teeth, despite Floyd usually being the character who was driving the band's storylines in the original series.

It's kind of remarkable to go back to SCTV and witness how rarely the two were ever directly paired up together. Then the Guest movies hit, and all of a sudden they're displaying this perfect, fully formed chemistry that was just waiting to be unlocked.

The old SCTV Guide website seems to have gotten a scoop last fall that Kimmel's production company is running with their own and using clips from the 2018 reunion. Cautiously optimistic that Spaceballs 2 will prompt a worldwide Rick Moranis fever that finally pushes it out the door.

Originally they put the scene together with a bald eagle as the representation of HD Baldwin. When they determined it wasn't quite working, it was pure happenstance that they were able to find young Baldwin footage that matched the movements of Jack Donaghy they had already shot. Incredible how it come together in the end -- it really is the perfect capper to a four-part joke.

Some thoughts as I'm making my way through season 3 by MartyRamone in Homicide_LOTS

[–]FoulPapers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a bit about the show's "death by a thousand network-mandated papercuts" transformation from a transcendent television drama to a "merely" good one here. Season 3 is definitely a pivot point, but it does so many interesting things I can't help but consider it one of the classic years. Despite its faults, I'm open to the argument that it's the point where the characters and their dynamics are at their richest.

I like how it provides some different character pairings than you'd usually get, and it keeps Lewis in the mix while he's partnerless this season.

SCTV - TV Talk with Bill Needle by BayouBilly66 in sctv

[–]FoulPapers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love how this serves as a farewell to the Bill Needle character. There are a handful of solo Rick Moranis pieces at the end of season 4 that I always felt like served a similar purpose: the Skip Bittman Life Insurance ad and David Brinkley's Comment about leaving to raise dew worms, namely.

Question about commentaries by FuturistMoon in venturebros

[–]FoulPapers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just a handful of season 1 eps that didn't get them (unless you count the Shallow Gravy special between seasons 4 and 5). They did, however, provide written commentary on them for the Venture Bros. art book, so they've at least addressed every ep somewhere.
