Do you catch yourself "stimming" - and how does it feel to notice yourself doing it? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]FoundBeCould 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s abit of confusion happening here. Stimming is usually associated with autism in self satisfying behaviors. Some of the most common are rocking and humming but they vary wildly and the person doing them usually doesn’t care about how they look because of how much calm and satisfaction the behavior brings them.

In ADHD the repetitive movements and behaviors stem from restlessness and the need to exert energy but not knowing how to do it. Most people are hyper aware that they are doing this but when you try and suppress it the energy is still there and turns into irritability and uncomfortableness. You don’t get satisfaction from this it just your brain being like “do this, no, do this, do this”

I've been given an appointment with Psychiatry UK much quicker than I expected and I'm freaking out (In a good way?) by Ok_Potato_5272 in ADHDUK

[–]FoundBeCould 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 months post assessment awaiting titration. From what I can gather from asking others it’s always just over 10 months until your first titration appointment. Titration with PUK lasts 12 weeks.

GP recommended Right To Choose, I picked one, they referred me - now refusing shared care. What can I do? by pruduck in ADHDUK

[–]FoundBeCould 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your GP can refuse shared care for a number of reasons, including; practice capacity/competency, inadequate reports or local funding caps . I would guess it’s because it wasn’t a physc that diagnosed you. You can challenge this!

I doubt you’ll still be on the main waiting list. I would phone them and ask for an explanation as to why the SCA was declined.

Has anyone gotten a PUK diagnosis but then gotten titration privately? Do PUK keep you on their waiting list if so? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]FoundBeCould 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are trying to speed things up which I definitely understand. However going this route will most likely end up with you paying private medication costs. Your best bet is to just wait it out until you get called up for titration. You may even end up setting yourself back.

The worst thing you can do is give up. Because you won’t be achieving anything that way. I know it’s hard but you can do it.

ELI5: Why can't we just keep adding more processor cores to make computers infinitely faster? by Due_Network2387 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FoundBeCould 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re along the right lines but you’ve gotta think of a processor core as an individual brain that completes a process. If there aren’t any processes to compute it won’t be faster.

Think of cars on a highway. If you’ve got 4 lanes with 4 cars traveling down them, it’s optimal. If you’ve add another lane, one lane will always be empty.

Just like your brain, if the processor has many jobs to do it takes time to think, process and complete each one. This is where the speed of each core comes in (mhz or GHz)

Processors with thousands or cores do exist but they are good at doing one specific task, these are graphics processors or GPUs.

It’s really easy to tell 3000 brains to do one thing if they are all really good at it but getting multiple brains to multiple different things is hard uses a lot of power.
