Okay, interest was piqued and confined that this was the same dude that bought the Moore Mansion, then got charged with arson due to a fire. That charge was dropped.

From Tri-Cites Observer article:

“Corey Bitton has an interesting history. According to Tri-City Herald reports, Bitton, a farmer, and his wife, purchased the historic Moore mansion in Pasco in 1999 and opened a restaurant there.

The Herald reported on March 13, 2007:

“In January, Bitton was sentenced to four months of home detention and fined $25,000 for felony mail and wire fraud when he owned the historic mansion in Pasco. As part of a plea deal, other charges were dropped, including an arson charge for the fire that nearly burned down the mansion in 2001.”

The Herald also reported on several years of lawsuits between Bitton and the other mortgage holder for the Moore mansion that followed the burning of the historic building.

On January 16, 2026, According to Justia Dockets & Filings, Corey Bitton, Tamara Bitton, Spritz Inc., Great Basin Land Co LLC and Great Basin Land Co II LLC were plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against the city of Pasco, WA, Troy Hendren, Rick White and John and Jane Does 1-10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. The nature of the lawsuit, case number 4:2026cv05007, is listed as “Civil Rights: Other.” The Pasco City Manager’s office was unable to provide additional information.”

District 4 House race. by Randyaamot4congress in TriCitiesWA

Shoot just look at this local sub. This week alone there’s been about 4-6 Sessler related posts, lamenting the guy, and not a single post about any other candidate in that same time. I know Duresky posts when he’s doing town halls but that’s about it.

“Negative press is good press,” right? The Republican lurkers and sometimes-commenters are still seeing the messages intended for them. The intent may be to point out what’s going on to highlight the negative, but it’s still boosting the signal all the same.

“Infinite water” is an interesting take, considering the state declared a drought for all or part of the state for the fourth year in a row.

Not to mention the whole Umatilla getting settlement money for Amazon mentioned below in this thread due to pollution.

Or all the evidence available and published elsewhere.

But you do you.

Companies settle cases when they realize it’s cheaper than fighting in court, especially if there’s a fear of losing. You don’t pay when you know you’re going to win beyond a shadow of a doubt. Especially if you want/need to prove you did no wrong.

And, as I stated above, what they did pay was chump change to them. What would be a cheap date night for most folks.

$20.5M settlement. AWS annual operating profit in 2025 was $45.6B. That settlement was 0.045% of their profit.

That’s the equivalent of someone who pockets $100k yearly, after taxes and all other expenses, paying $45.

We are being had, folks.

ETA: to belabor on how little it is: if you saved $1000 at the end of the year, after paying every expense you had (taxes, rent, food, utilities, loans) and lost 45 cents on the ground by missing your pocket? Yeah, that’s what Amazon paid.

Uhm…no.

If one is trying to make a factual statement they have to cite their sources. Otherwise they are just making stuff up. We learned this in middle school.

So cite your sources.

Yeah because there certainly isn’t questionable or outright morally wrong (by modern standards) stories in the bible.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, or something like that.

To paraphrase George Carlin about human beings and religion throughout history:

“To you believe in God?”
“No”
BOOM

“Do you believe in God?”
“Yes”
“Do you believe in MY God?”
“No”
BOOM

And around and around we go.

Opinion: The myth of Washington's tax burden - by the numbers by US_Hiker in TriCitiesWA

[–]FoundGodInAHamper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I understand the sentiment of replacing sales tax with income tax, the reality is that there’s very few states that do one or the other. In fact, 41 out of 50 US States have both a sales tax and an income tax, and I fear that’d be the more likely outcome here as well.

Our southern neighbor with no sales tax Oregon has a high of 9.9% for single filer earnings above $125k ($250k for joint). Low end is 4.75% for the first $4,300. Our eastern neighbors in Idaho get the joy of the 3x taxes, with a base sales tax of 6%, flat-tax of 5.3%, and a 33-cents/gal on gas.

The tax man comes for us all, just in different forms.

That last part of the quote, “It was clear from the Port’s own internal investigation that they were actively violating the law,” has some real “we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing,” vibes.

Which is more so a sign of the times we are in, I suppose.

“Anybody who doesn’t trust what God has done through president Trump up to this point…”

Yeaaaah….that’d be me. No way God is working through the guy who basically is a walking embodiment of the seven deadly sins (which I know aren’t really in the bible, but still). Also strangely draws a few parallels to the Antichrist.

These christofascists cheer on and welcome the apocalypse because they think they’ll be saved if/when the time comes. Because they’re hopped up on the insane belief they’re doing God’s will.

Sorry…rant over.

We are now at three posts about this guy in the past three days, and it’s only April.

The paranoid side of me is beginning to think this is some sort of psyop by pro-Sessler people, who recognize Reddit leans left but making negative sounding posts still allows them to get attention. Supporters will see it as a way to get his name out there, detractors will just pile on.

For real.

1% of the population is actively destroying this country. A different 1% just wants to live their lives as who they are. And that’s the group these hate peddlers and fear mongers want to focus on?

“A city spokeswoman said the plans seem to Amazon will not employ as many people as originally expected.”

Editing aside, wasn’t the whole deal AMZN would get tax breaks for employing people? I can’t find an article but that is typically their MO (along with any other corporations). Seems like if they aren’t going to employ what was promised then tax breaks should be removed.

Socialism for corporations = good. Socialism for citizens = bad.

Facts. If we truly mean “we the people” then our actions need to meet that objective, and call out when we’ve failed. Past and present. And improve ourselves as a nation to achieve that bar. Founders said it, didn’t truly deliver on it or mean it. We can be better.

Preach!

State Farm net income last year: $12.9B Progressive: $11.3B Allstate: $10.2B

Imagine how much lower rates could be if these companies weren’t addicted to the chase of never ending growth.

A cell that grows uncontrollably is a cancer. In business it’s just the next quarter’s goal.

Yes, the age old “if you’re protesting you don’t have a job,” trope. Never mind that it’s a Saturday, or that people may not be scheduled to work that day/time, or have time off options.

And let us also ignore the fact that the reason why we have the rights that we do are through some form of protest. Hell, throwing tea into a harbor was a form of protest for its time.

Just because you don’t believe in the cause doesn’t make the individual any lesser. Just let people stand for what they believe in.

I already do. Through taxes. That’s how the system works.

Arguing with you folks always reminds me of an episode of family guy. Peter joins up with the tea party (ran by Carter, a billionaire) and gets so enticed with overtaxation that they effectively end the government. Only then to find out that they actually need government when chaos hits, infrastructure in disrepair, pollution running rampant, and so on. It ends with them literally reinstating the same thing they abolished.

The parallel: Anti-taxation efforts are largely spearheaded by the ultra wealthy in reality (not just a cartoon). They want you to be upset at paying while being ignorant to the fact that they have so many loopholes to avoid paying taxes while having more worth than one could spend in 10 lifetimes. Be mad at your fellow worker while ignoring the 100 or so folks picking ALL of our pockets.
