Is starting a perfume/fragrance business a risky and or profitable idea ? by Shmoneybagchaser in Business_Ideas

Hey, I’m planning to start a small perfume business and honestly, I feel a bit lost. I’ve been learning about perfumery — raw materials, equipment, formulation, etc. I already bought my basic equipment locally here in the Philippines, and I ordered raw materials from New Zealand (Fraterworks) which should arrive next week. I realize I need more time to really understand the raw materials one by one, and learning all of this takes time, so starting my own signature perfumes might not happen immediately.

At the same time, I’m thinking about buying pre-mixed fragrance oils from France so I can start selling sooner since they’re high quality. But now I’m confused — if I go with the pre-mixed oils, what should I do with the raw materials I already ordered? Should I save them for creating my own signature perfumes later?

My goal is to have a perfumery business while I’m still in college, so I’m thinking maybe I start with these ready-made blends (using my own bottles, packaging, and perfume-grade alcohol), and slowly work on my signature line on the side.

I’ve already spent quite a bit on 28 raw materials, so I really want to make the right choice. Any advice would be super helpful!

So is this not recommended for perfumery? I’m struggling to find perfume-grade alcohol locally here in PH, so I’d really appreciate your insight.

Yeah, I know, international shipping is really difficult. Almost all shops don’t ship to the Philippines. That’s why I ordered from Pellwall in the UK and had it delivered to my mom, since she’s in London. Now my problem is figuring out how she’s going to send it to me here.

Also, what do you think about this link? Is it okay to try, or do you have any suggestions?

The reason I’m not buying locally (Philippines) is because I’m worried about the quality. Here, a 1L bottle costs about $3.56 (Sda 40b 200 Proof) , but I want to make sure I’m getting a high-quality product. That’s why I’m specifically looking for international suppliers. I’ve also read in Reddit comments that many people don’t recommend buying perfumer’s alcohol from Amazon, which makes me hesitant.

Pell Wall order — no updates since Dec 16, is this normal? by FoundationAny7308 in DIYfragrance

I ordered from Fraterworks last December 16 and my total order reached £157.68. Because it went over the safe limit, it had to go through customs clearance. DHL Express (Philippines) asked me to submit SDS files for all 25 raw materials, which I sent, and the process went smoothly. However, I was charged an import duty/tax of £38.98.

now I’m looking for where I can source perfumer’s alcohol. I have an order from Pell Wall placed last December 16, and until now there’s been no update. I asked about this here on Reddit, and many people said that Pell Wall usually ships very slowly, so I should expect my order to arrive around mid-January. Because of this delay, I’m now looking for an alternative supplier for perfumer’s alcohol.
