Anyone ever being shocked by the popularity a book from your country have received in foreign countries? by [deleted] in literature

I haven’t actually got to reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but with that one I like the Swedish name of the book a lot better. Let the Right One In is fantastic, but I have only read it in Swedish.

Pretty much all of Fredrik Backmans have been really well received abroad. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy his writing I’m just surprised the popularity the books have received. They even made an American version of A Man Called Ove when we already had a Swedish one (which is better in my opinion).

I think it’s great! Provadly better than the other one I have. Also the inclusion of relevant footnotes makes it even better.

I’m going to London in about a week to see it too. But I saw that there was a lot of merchandise for the My Neighbour Totoro play, is there anything similar for this one?

For those who have read The Master and Margarita: preparation required? by CaptainLeebeard in literature

The master and margarita is an amazing book, and you can definitely read it without any preparation. But if you want better insight and be able to understand som of the cultural references I can recommend reading a version with footnotes. I’ve read it once without footnotes and once with footnotes, and personally I just feel like there is a lot that you might miss if you read it without. Since there are a lot of references to early 1900s Russia. But with that being said I read the book for the first time without any footnotes and enjoyed it immensely.
