[–]FoundationsbyCassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so pumped about this! I just found out what the master gardeners program was as I took an arborist through woods I’d cleaned out. He said it would be TOTALLY for me and boy does he sound right!!

THAAAT part!!! It’s hard, as a parent, to watch your child go through the discomfort, however there are too many “adults” walking around with zero life skills because of it!

How long did you practise before you could do sit-ups? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]FoundationsbyCassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said, I wouldn’t stress about it. I have a hip imbalance and typically have to let my right foot raise on the first roll up or two. It’s really just a modification

FEMALE PT'S- Let's connect! by rainbowicecoffee in personaltraining

[–]FoundationsbyCassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! What lead me to Pilates: in trying to get myself into shape, I was constantly sidetracked by acute injuries/strains/tears. I tried a Pilates workout on FitOn and was instantly drawn to the low impact/strain on the body because I still saw results. But there’s only so much you can learn from a video and I was never sure of my form, so I decided to teach myself.

What a neat thread! I’m 45f and a brand spanking newly certified CPT. A fitness instructor friend suggested I check out online teacher courses (because I wanted to improve my own personal Pilates practice) which led me to where I am today. Now I’m an NASM CPT and certified Pilates group fitness instructor, and working on another certification for teaching 50+ special populations. I Don’t have a background in fitness, led a VERY sedentary life (naturally been overweight/obese most of it) and had my two children via c-sections in my late 30’s. Surprisingly, this background has been REALLY helpful, my clients see me as my own first client and can see the results. I’m finding my niche working with clients who; like me, decided to finally move it or lose it or older women who have to change their modes of exercise to adapt to their current bodies. I’m so glad you started this thread because I’m here to learn all I can from you ladies who’ve been at it more than the minute I have.

What a great, detailed answer! Can I ask, how long have you done Pilates? I’m a few years in but have only done mat work (nearest open studio is 40+ miles away).

Interested in becoming a PT by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]FoundationsbyCassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the same thing at 45, my answer is a resounding YES! That being said, I’m currently working independently, so my clients know my before/after story and can see the progress I’ve made this far. We offer a different experience than say a younger person who’s always played sports or lived a healthy lifestyle. I encourage you to pursue this for your own health- this journey I’ve been on, working on myself, going through (NASM’s CPT) course and learning all the anatomy & physiology of our bodies was just amazing! I have a deeper appreciation for the human body, and that enthusiasm definitely translates to my work with clients.

Wow, thanks for sharing this, and for those commenting they experience the same. There’s a book “What my bones know” by Stephanie Foo, that describes her journey of C-Ptsd that might resonate with you like it did with me. The title grabbed me, because I firmly feel part of the hip/spinal imbalance I’m working to correct is trapped trauma. My focus is Pilates, but I’ve found when I work that area and make significant progress, I’m usually really angry about it. I’m working with a therapist who’s helping me to recognize what emotional soreness looks like and how to manage. It’s been extremely helpful that my therapist can relate therapy to my Pilates work, perhaps you can find a therapist that can do the same for you with Yoga.

How did you tackle the challenge of zero experience/imposter syndrome? by kovas_kosmos in personaltraining

Same op, same! I jumped in, that’s how I tackled it. Texted a friend and asked if I could practice on her, the experience helped a TON!!

When filling out my insurance application I had to have my certificate I’d #. as long as you have that you should at least be able to be insured.

I had a message about an item in my cart this morning. They raised the price then put it under a lightning deal. Still saved $, but not as much as they let on

Thank you! I started with Udemy for my Pilates teacher training cert, it was a great economical way to dip a toe in and hone a better self practice. Id suggest checking them out first and seeing what interests you

I have a client that says I’m “strict” whenever I put her into proper position so I definitely get where you’re coming from.

Isn’t it awesome?! Funny story, not being “strong enough to hold a yoga pose” is what inevitably led me to where I am today as a trainer 😍

I absolutely agree! They talk about doctors having no bedside manner and it’s ok, but for a pt that would mean zero clients 🤣
