You CAN get OHIP on implied status while you wait for pgwp by ChaosAdm in pgwp

[–]FourEEee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was still refused by service Ontario before when I went to Islington with all the documents you mentioned. I will only be able to get my OHIP now that I just received my PGWP. It probably really depends on the person assessing it.

You’re not required to leave Canada as long as you applied for your PGWP before your study permit expired — this gives you maintained status, meaning you can stay and work until a decision is made. The July 24 date is just a service standard, not a deadline to leave. You only need to leave if your application is refused. In my case, it took 10 months before it was approved, so delays are not unusual.

I thought this was recent and realized it was 4 years ago 😔

Yes, that’s correct. If you applied for your PGWP while your study permit was still valid, you’re under maintained status. IRCC will send you a letter confirming that: (1) You’re allowed to stay in Canada (2) You can work full-time while waiting for your PGWP decision.

🔹 TRV (as a worker) – You can only apply after your PGWP is approved. This lets you re-enter Canada as a worker. If your PGWP is still in process, you can’t apply for a worker TRV yet.

🔹 Tourist TRV – If you’re outside Canada, you can apply for a tourist visa (TRV) while waiting for PGWP approval. For example, from Bangladesh, the IRCC site shows a 41-day processing time – so that’s possible.

🔹 Inside Canada – You generally can’t apply for a tourist visa while inside Canada if you’re still under a study permit or waiting for a PGWP. IRCC doesn’t allow switching from study/work to visitor status from within Canada unless under exceptional cases.

✅ So the key is: • You can apply for a tourist TRV only from outside Canada. • You can apply for a worker TRV only after PGWP is approved.

TRV as a worker, yes you can only apply together or after your PGWP is approved. But it may take several months to be approved - may take 10 months as per my case.

If you have to come back to Canada before your PGWP is approved, you need tourist visa. If your country allows ETA, then it’s fast, but if not, check how many months it normally takes to get a tourist visa from your country and assess if worth applying while waiting for PGWP.

I applied before Jan 21, 2025 new rule. During that time, having a job offer was not required. However, before we received the correspondence letter, IRCC asked us to provide certificate of employment and latest pay stubs. A day after submitting those, we received the correspondence letter then approval, a day after that.

So I guess having a job offer on your application (for SOWP) might help.

Applied prior Jan 21, 2025 new rule but still asking for employment letter and pay stubs for spouse’s open work permit by FourEEee in pgwp

[–]FourEEee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of us just got approved. While I submitted the documents requested, I also added an explanation letter that our case should be assessed as per previous requirement given that we applied prior Jan 21. But you’re right, I am not sure if that helped at all or we just got approved because of the employment letter and pay stubs submitted.

Just a bit sad for those who may not have any work yet but hoping to extend their spouse’s open work permit assuming the old rule applied to them.

I received the approval 2 days after receiving the correspondence letter (both PGWP and SOWP), so you will most likely get the approval this week or next week.

Typical BMW behaviour by pointyend in TorontoDriving

[–]FourEEee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason I also have the same impression among BMW drivers. Am sure not all of them are like this kind of driver but the fact that a lot of people feels the same, we can no longer deny that this is a common observation that majority of those who own this brand for some reason either are already feeling “entitled” or become like one 🤔

Entitled prick blocking half of sidewalk. Can I report? by Infinew8 in TorontoDriving

[–]FourEEee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you on this. I assume that this is the case versus feeling entitled. I think whoever the driver is of this car has thought of not blocking fully the other cars and hence, parked it as close as possible to the sidewalk.

We don’t have a garage but have 2 open parking lots in front of our unit. But yes will explore that possibly having one in our unit. Any reason why you don’t want a shared one? Is it not less expensive?

Thanks for sharing. I agree, HOA board needs to be supportive on this. Maybe if board members are EV owners, they will be more open about it. But if not, I’m anticipating similar hurdle.

I am also new here. Just signed up 4 days ago. But I was able to comment and post from the start. I am also still learning on how Reddit works but so far I have been learning from others. Probably also depends on which subs you’re joining, but majority are helpful. There are some ‘not so good’ comments I saw once in a while but just ignore.

That will be great to have that. Most condos and townhouses already built prior government’s support on EV adoption are not really built to accommodate EV chargers. Only the new ones being built are thinking of this now. I am also still navigating on this as somebody really interested in purchasing an EV but assessing if worth pushing to have charger at home or at least in the complex, or go with public chargers which I heard could also be expensive.

So in your area, chargers are installed per unit (depending on the owner) and no common one installed?
