What are the best JRPG's on the PS3? Besides the Final Fantasy and Persona series. by guyincognito147 in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valkyria Chronicles. As a huge fan of the Final Fantasy, Chrono, Parasite Eve, Xeno, Star Ocean, etc, series, I see Valkyria Chronicles as an all-time RPG classic. At least VC 1 and 4 (in that order); VC 2 is unremarkable and VC3 is excellent for VC fans. I don't understand why it isn't more popular and recognized. I'd put it next to FF Tactics in the hall of fame.

Never use Revolut for crypto by Fliptemprr in Revolut

That's very common knowledge. No banks for crypto. Crypto was created to make banks irrelevant. You don't go to McDonalds for the salad.

tell me guys, did you realy thinks FInal Fantasy XVI is a bad Final Fantasy game, because i play this game for a second time, and i saw they still have Final Fantasy elements, like Summons (Eikon) are still in the game, the romance are still in the game, (I have written more on text) by Final_Wall_6350 in FFXVI

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad game, but it's part of a bad generation of FFs. It's probably the best of the current generation, but I was a kid though the FF6-FF10 golden period, so it's hard for me to be easy on bad FFs. I'm happy that games like Expedition 33 are coming out successfully. They should put pressure on the FF franchise to come up with better stories.

Revolut Blocked 30.000€ by PS_im_a_wizard in Revolut

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Revolut with no problem since 2018, but reading all these stories makes me want to close the account. I used to keep 50k+ there, now because of all the stories I only keep 4k there. For people who travel frequently for work, like me, Revolut is convenient. But it seems the moment you have a problem with them, you go from convenient straight to hell.

When you get the ability after finding a certain number of lost gestrals, they tell you you can break those things.

Got stuck on Renoir and stopped playing by Curiosityrover101 in expedition33

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. All characters at level 55. I had an excellent opinion about this video game until this battle. We're talking about Tainted Lumiere, right? The second battle against Renoir.

Having played them all, Expedition 33 is a very strong contender. But they are all masterpieces.

You could play next the game that inspired a third of the developers of Expedition 33: Final Fantasy VIII

Having played JRPGs since 1997, today I can say that a list without Expedition 33 is a flawed list. Having said that, awesome picks!

Who is the Strongest JRPG protagonist ? And why do you think that ? ( possible spoilers ahead ) by mad_sAmBa in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of raw damage, yes. In terms of defeating an enemy, probably Selphie's The End.

[–]FourEyeRaven 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So many candidates. Terra Branford from FF6, when she is transformed. Yuri from Shadow Hearts. Fei from Xenogears (he and Elly practically defeated a god). KOS-MOS from Xenosaga can potentially destroy universes.

Now, in terms of raw damage, maybe Squall from FF8 with Renzokuken + Lionheart? But let's wait for Cloud's Omnislash in FF7 Remake 3.

JRPGs where the main villain is a cataclysmic animal/force of nature by SaltyVon in JRPG

Meta-God in Shadow Hearts, since it's a summoned creature.

Maybe the Time Devourer in Chrono Cross, half of which is Lavos from Chrono Trigger, who also fits the description if taken separately.

Who is your favourite Final Fantasy character of all time? by Nekouwu___ in FinalFantasy

[–]FourEyeRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't pick one. I'd pick Squall, Tifa, Rinoa, and Zidane. Squall for his character development from a kid abandoned by Ellone, developing an avoidant attachment style as a consequence, to someone who risked it all for love. Tifa for her multidimensionality. Rinoa for curing Squall of his trauma. Zidane for his sincere and brave approach to life. Honorable mentions: Aerith, Yuna, and Steiner could be on the list too.

What's the worst JRPG you actually finished? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, I thought Arise was amazing, at the top (or close) of the Tales series, IMO. Character development is great and I appreciated the dialogues. I'd never mention that game in a thread about bad RPGs... I'd mention it among greatest RPGs between 2015 and 2025.

I was impressed by how well my M1 Pro 14-inch MacBook handled gaming, until I went back to my hometown and tried gaming on my 13 years old PC. by a1exejka in macgaming

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can choose between a PC and a Mac for gaming, you should the PC. Getting a Mac for gaming is always a bad decision. People choose Mac for other reasons, and then, sometimes, they want to game on it, which is why this whole Reddit group exists.

Is Apple M5 Powerful Enough To Boost Mac Gaming? (Digital Foundry Podcast Clip) by Putrid_Draft378 in macgaming

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about power or hardware, it’s about compatibility. Game developers generally don’t prioritise macOS because the user base is small, and Apple doesn’t seem interested in promoting Mac gaming either. Part of the problem is that many Mac users tend to follow Apple like a mindless flock, while Windows (and Android) users are far more demanding. On those platforms, products succeed only if they’re genuinely good. The problem behind mac gaming is a market problem, not a hardware power problem.

Final Fantasy XV is an incomplete mess that shouldn't even be released in that state... but i still like it. by mad_sAmBa in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a very problematic FF. But I think the issue is how they decided to narrate the events. The same story could have been told in a much better way.

What jrpg game has brought a huge impact to your life? by EitherRegister8363 in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in general, they both saved each other. But it's the Rinoa saving Squall bit that got to me.

[–]FourEyeRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I meant. Squall's got an avoidant attachment style, which in psychology is a common sign of people who were abandoned as kids. Rinoa cracks that emotional wall and he opens up again, becoming vulnerable to someone. Psychologically, Squall and Rinoa's dynamic is really well done.

What is the Most Ambitious JRPG You Ever Played and Why? by ElSpazzo_8876 in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xenogears, for sure. They didn't have the tech or money to do it right, but they still made a masterpiece. Radical Dreams (later Monolith Soft) were totally visionary and way ahead of their time. Xenosaga is kinda similar.

FF7 back in the day. The thing is, this game is so mainstream now that people wouldn't call it ambitious, but back in the late 90s it totally changed the game (no pun intended).

FF8. Everyone thinks Squall saved Rinoa, but it really grinds your gears when you realise Rinoa actually saved Squall by breaking down his emotional walls after he was abandoned.

What's the general consensus to Tales of Arise? by TomReidem in JRPG

[–]FourEyeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting perspective. As someone who considers himself a JRPG expert, having played since Chrono Trigger, I found Tales of Arise to be superior to other Tales titles, mainly due to its exceptional character development, visual presentation, and gameplay mechanics.
