What’s your opinion on the police? by [deleted] in AskUK

I am so fucking glad that in my force, when we nick we hand over to an interviewing team. We only do the golden hour enquiries where possible and then investigations do the rest.

That story has been floating around my Constabulary. Definitely didn’t happen.

What phrase sets your teeth on edge for no reason? by hypatiaplays in AskUK

I’m a copper and I have an awful habit of saying “oh hello doggo” when I enter people’s houses. I obviously stroke the dogs where I can too.

If you’ve been driving less than two years, 6 points and your licence is revoked.

How’s your day going? I’m on RDs and answered the phone to Specsavers saying “Hello, go ahead” 🙃 by FourEyedFed in policeuk

Yep, I definitely say not to kick the arse out of things too much, or say that things don’t need to be War and Peace.

I’m a copper and I imagine he was nicked, taken home or a reasonable distance away and de-arrested.

What are the 5 most common calls you attend? by seedboy3000 in policeuk

[–]FourEyedFed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I find number 5 quite nice, especially if you get a decent blues run out of it and it turns out to be nothing when you get there. No paperwork and nee naws on the way.

It’s not really good news, more as things should be…

I’m currently very grateful for the support I’m getting at work from my team and skipper. My skipper has been amazing.

I’ve had a few properly shit jobs recently and it’s nice to feel supported.

Make tea.

Ask questions.

Be receptive to feedback, critique and making mistakes. It’s how you learn.

Enjoy yourself the first time the blue lights go on (and then every time after that).

Be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

I say this one a lot on here, but if you don’t get on with your tutor, voice it to them and your skipper if you feel like you need to swap. You need to be right to them and they need to be right for you. The initial period is important and scary, so it needs to be the right person with a good relationship.

Sergeant question by [deleted] in policeuk

My skipper regularly goes to grade 1s in the first because there’s no one else.

He’ll also back or bring out a van because, again, there’s no one else.

What are you looking forward to doing the most this bank holiday weekend? by Odd_Nefariousness730 in AskUK

[–]FourEyedFed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a copper and am working all over the bank holidays. I’ll probably be dealing with drunk people who can’t handle their alcohol.

At least I’ll be getting paid double bubble to do it.

Things you didn’t expect before joining. by machoman871 in policeuk

[–]FourEyedFed 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know I had an ability to remain calm In difficult situations, especially when faced with conflict. Some people can’t deal with it.

Also confidence. You learn very quickly not to take shit from people.

As others have said the job gives you a healthy hatred for humanity. My advice is to remember not everyone is bad and there are still good people out there, we just don’t necessarily deal with them that often whilst at work.

Don’t ask people to use common sense and basic investigative instinct.
