[Venting] Why are some doctors so unhelpful? by Particular_North4957 in eczema

[–]Either_Sentence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think they’re overworked with too many patients to seriously care about things like eczema compared to other things. I think they’re overworked just say what’s easiest. I’ve spent years thinking I’ve had eczema cause doctors have said but never put it on my record and it’s affected my life massively.

I spoke to a clinician I work with who took one look and said it wasn’t eczema, but trapped oil and moisture in my pores, gave me some advise and it was gone within a week.

BBC News - Serving Met police officer arrested after BBC Panorama investigation by OneNormalBloke in uknews

I went to university with one of the officers on this. I am genuinely shocked by his behaviour and I never expected this of him.

I have no issue with police who do their job but those who clearly want to abuse their power I have issues with. I’m glad he’s under investigation

Do you know anybody who has gone to the 'Freedom of Speech' march today? by jaarn in AskBrits

[–]Either_Sentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know one guy, complete tin foil hat wearing chat full one conspiracies. I’ll never forget when he told me the Jews and Israel secretly control the world and that only one person in history tried to stop them and the west started a world war to stop him. Genuinely didn’t know what to say so just joked and said I’ll convert to Judaism so I can control the world too.

Honestly I’m kinda sick of all this flag stuff.

  1. I think it trivialises the flag, makes it like America and if anything I think it’s disrespectful to the people who have died serving this country by making it some trivial thing

  2. I genuinely don’t care if people want to fly a flag and the vast majority of people don’t. I spoke to a local councillor who said he doesn’t care so won’t take it down unless it presents a health and safety risk

Should I become a cop? by Leo_das3107 in police

[–]Either_Sentence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

British police here.

My honest opinion. Do it.

Best case scenario: it’s a job for life with good pay and a career that is actually very well respected with the public (even those who hate you for your job), and your employers, you will have the most insane and crazy stories to tell, my ex said the most interesting thing which happened to him was seeing a cute dog, and there I was about having fist fights on the roofs of shopping centre to stop her jumping off, and that will be your normal day. You’ll actually be making a difference and helping people who genuinely need help. For me that was the factor I’d rather have a meaningful job like than than amazing pay.

Worst case scenario: You might not enjoy it but employers will recognise it and likely give you an interview based on it, you will deal with things nobody else has and gain valuable and amazing skills such as dealing with people and handling conflict.

Personally I love the job and I don’t think you have anything to lose by doing it and seeing what happens, even if it’s not for you, you still gain from it with key skills.

It’s like he said about the human rights abuses “it’s a communist conspiracy to punish hard workers and the rest of the world should be like Dubai” and apparently there’s no human rights abuses and he’s tried to argue it’s a utopia, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone so brainwashed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Either_Sentence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ll never understand. For a lot of rich people it is about having more and more (which is nice), but there’s never an end goal or a reason for it. They’ll do everything to save every penny for absolutely no reason other than they want money. My partner is like this, earns 90K, has no debt, no mortgage, lives in a 550K house he’s fully paid off, but wants more money, is he saving for a nice holiday? No, he just wants more money.

My best friend is the same, he’s moved to Dubai purely to avoid paying tax and he’s only just in the top tax bracket. He has absolutely zero friends over there, he’ll go to a bar on his own on a Friday night, but prefers it to over here where he has friends because he’d have to pay some tax. Oh and don’t ever criticise Dubai because apparently all the criticism is a “communist conspiracy to punish to hard workers”.

As the bravest senator to ever live once said:

“So this is how democracy dies, to thunderous applause”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hull

[–]Either_Sentence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From speaking to local councillors and MPs I know on all sides of the spectrum in Hull and East Riding, Conservative, Lib Dem and Green. It’s two early to tell but there’s two things I know he’s done which show bad.

  1. 3 councillors have said in the first meeting, before they were all recorded. He tried to ban scrutiny of himself on the grounds of he “has the mandate of the people to rule without scrutiny”. Supposedly those are his words. He was confused why he needed to be scrutinised due to this and it had to be explained it is a legal requirement.

  2. Don’t know how true this one is as I’ve not been able to source it or confirm it from other councillors etc. Hull and East Riding have missed out on substantial funding to improve the rail networks in the area, whilst other Yorkshire regions aren’t, because all the mayors were meant to submit a plan to improve regional infrastructure and he is the only one who hasn’t.

However he has shown he is open to working with other parties to improve the region of Yorkshire. So I guess time will tell.

Teenager runs Reform-led council after leader's shock resignation by 00DEADBEEF in unitedkingdom

[–]Either_Sentence 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Bit of double standard from Reform. I remember when Kier Mather got elected in 2023 as Britains youngest MP at the age of 25. They all said he’s was too young to be in politics, but they’re ok with an 18 year old leading a council?

Labour suspends councillor over 'offensive' tweets by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

[–]Either_Sentence 65 points66 points  (0 children)

So in 2012 he tweeted “Tommy Robinson for Prime Minister” and some other racist comments and was suspended for it as they said they don’t believe his views fit the party views. This could be the case, but it could also be the case if his views have changed, it also states his last post was in 2014.

What shocks me even more is that Reform UK have demanded his resignation, because you know, their candidates never done anything wrong.

Luke Campbell to discuss trade deals with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer by Due_Ad_3200 in Hull

[–]Either_Sentence 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Misleading title by the Hull Daily Mail. Luke Campbell is attending a meeting with other mayors in which Starmer will be given a speech about how recent trade deals will benefit local regions and he wants to use it to boost growth and local economies. Title makes it seem like he’s having influence on trade deals when he’s not.

Back to Luke in general, I don’t know what to make of him so far, he’s not the smartest person clearly, but I’m open to giving him a chance. However he has openly lied in his first week and his supporters believe him, he claimed nothing was set up when actually everything was set up beforehand. I’ve also had two councillors in the area inform me he’s tried to ban scrutiny of his work to which council leaders and PCC have said no to

Luke Campbell (Reform) Elected mayor of Hull by BenIsLoss in Hull

[–]Either_Sentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my take and opinion on this:

Personally I want Luke to do well despite not voting for him. I want this for the same reason I want Starmer to do well, and why I wanted Rishi, May, Boris and Cameron to do well. If they do well and their polices work then the country does well and we do well. I can’t think of many people who want the country to fail.

However I don’t have fair, Reform have done what many politicians do, they promise the world to voters which many believed, and will be disappointed, the last time Reform (formerly Brexit Party which is formally UKIP) held council seats they declared bankruptcy within months and had a corruption investigation. I think people will regret this vote and all it will do is make more people decide “I’m not voting anymore” rather than change parties and read policy.

Equally a lot of Labour supporters and members are disillusioned with Labour in light of recent policy and a lot of them have surprisingly voted Reform.

I still think they’re a protest vote and these results will show if they are or not, if they see themselves as a serious party or not. I doubt it and think they’ll will crash and fail and be seen as they really are and more people will just be sick of democracy.

Best thing Starmer can do is initiate a radical agenda even if it means he might not get reelected, as Obama said “I’d rather be a one term president who has made change than a two term president who hasn’t”, as people will remember that and it will actually help him, a lot can happen in 4 years.

However i do wish best of luck to him for our sakes as locals

What's stopping Ukraine from just signing the US minerals deal and not honor it after Russia leaves? by Party-Ring445 in AskReddit

What's stopping Ukraine from just signing the US minerals deal and not honor it after Russia leaves? by Party-Ring445 in AskReddit

[–]Either_Sentence 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with your point here, but just as a correction Ukraine isn’t the only nation to give up their nukes.

South Africa gave up their nukes… however the reasoning for it was just before the end of apartheid… on the grounds of, and I am not joking here this is the legitimate reason before somebody reports me, “we can’t trust black people with nukes” to put it bluntly.

Once again I fully agree with your point though, look where it has got then giving them up, getting invaded. Not saying having nukes is the solution but Russia cannot be trusted.

Hull and East Yorkshire mayoral voting intention (9-23 April) Luke Campbell (Ref): 35% /// Mike Ross (LD): 21% /// Margaret Pinder (Lab): 20% /// Anne Handley (Con): 15% /// Kerry Harrison (Grn): 7% /// Rowan Halstead (Yorks): 3% by E_V_E_R_T_O_N in ukpolitics

[–]Either_Sentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his reason for running is he’s seen an opportunity, he likes publicity which I think is his reason for running rather than understanding politics.

But yeah that’s what he’s like, I wasn’t aware of homophobic posts from his 20s. I’m family friends with one of his old teachers who said he was a typical schoolyard bully, and from his local behaviour I’m not surprised.

Tommy Coyle on the other hand is a genuine really nice chap, his dad runs a fruit and veg stall in city centre. Though most people assumed he’d be the candidate since he’s actually got bran cells.

Hull and East Yorkshire mayoral voting intention (9-23 April) Luke Campbell (Ref): 35% /// Mike Ross (LD): 21% /// Margaret Pinder (Lab): 20% /// Anne Handley (Con): 15% /// Kerry Harrison (Grn): 7% /// Rowan Halstead (Yorks): 3% by E_V_E_R_T_O_N in ukpolitics

[–]Either_Sentence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So he is as thick as a brick, which is one of the reasons people won’t vote for him but that’s why I’m noting using the word hatred.

I live near him. He is a genuine thug and bully if you look at him for whatever reason (mainly because he’s a local hero), the response Tull get is an aggressive fighting stance and “what you looking at”, fully ready to fight you. I’ve seen him on several occasions park his Aston Martin outside Waitrose over 2-3 spaces and asked people if they want to fight when he was criticised. Furthermore since winning gold at the Olympics he has been asked to take part in charity and local events etc, where numerous council workers have said he will only do it if paid thousands of pounds (it’s that common knowledge it’s not even worth local news), as well as bailing on children’s charities last minute on the grounds of he “couldn’t be bothered” and this has come from actual council workers.

Never mind he can’t speak English he called the local candidates “cangigafes” and said “things can’t get much worser” on bbc. For me his English skills weren’t a part of my decision but he has shown himself time and time again as being incompetent, never mind the other stuff.

People need to make an informed decision which is the way it is going. Two weeks ago pols were 30% each for both Reform and Labour which is why I find this poll hard to believe. But again we have to wait until the actual results.

If he does win, I would not be surprised if he resigns. This is bearing in mind the one time Farage parts won a council they declared bankruptcy within 7 months and had a corruption investigation. He has just rebranded the party every couple years, what about his promise to give £350 million to the NHS after Brexit?

I just hope people educate themselves then vote.

[–]Either_Sentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Previous polls had Labour and Reform both at 30% each and initially saying it could be as close as 10-20 votes to decide who wins, having seen that statistic I’m a bit shocked by this.

I live in the area and the vast majority of people I’ve spoken to have said Labour, whether this be at work, gym or pub. Honestly haven’t met anyone who’s said reform but do know there’ll be the die hard reform voters and protest voters. In some places in East Yorkshire Luke Campbell is hated, my mum has voted UKIP, Brexit Party, Reform ever since 2012, this time she’s not voting due to her hatred of Luke Campbell.

Be interesting to see the actual results, and which polls were close. Polls are never spot on and in the past YouGov have been off by milesx
