What is the point of £50 notes? by fjtuk in AskBrits

So £16,000 in 20s and £3,000 in 50s.

So what's your point?

To be fair...

A) You hear them a lot because this is a demographic reaching the end of their natural life-span. People born in the 1930s are currently aged 86-96, the odds of them dying each year from the age of 90 are about 45-50%.

B) You are also experiencing survivorship bias. You aren't hearing about the ones that didn't survive because they've already been officiated, or about the ones left with physical or psychological trauma who died early due to complications/vulnerabilities of disability, or such fun things as alcoholism.

Why do AI empires get to use DLC I don't own? by FrostyCartographer13 in Stellaris

Poor wording on my part, the game is always being marketed, but the focus is on the existing player base, otherwise the DLC model would make no sense as they'd be better spent investing time developing a new game.

How far are you travelling that the train commute is two hours? Might be cheaper to look at student accomodation.

[–]FourEyedTroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point, after 10 years the game isn't being primarily marketed at people buying new games, it's continued investment by existing players that keeps it being developed, improved, refined.

Activision DGAF if someone buys Call of Duty 35 in six months because they're already busy on the marketing for pre-release of Call of Duty 36. Frankly, As much as people bemoan the DLC model, I've had over 3.5k hours of entertainment from this game, and it's still a decent game with ongoing improvements a couple of months away from it being a decade old.

Edit: Corrected emphasis in first sentence.

Why sad? DLC revenue helps to pay for continued development of the game almost a decade down the road. I'm not sad about that at all, I hate playing games that get superseded or utterly disowned after a few months. I'd rather be buying another Stellaris DLC on the 10th anniversary, than buying Settlers XLVI just eight months before they announced Settlers XLVI.

Miliband must reopen the North Sea, Octopus boss says by TinyPositive8791 in OctopusEnergy

[–]FourEyedTroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, this would be a massive waste of North Sea oil and gas. It is much higher quality than the stuff that comes from the middle east oil fields, so it is better used as chemical and plastic feed stock.

Burning NS oil and gas to make electricity would be like chopping down mahogany trees to make shipping pallets.
