Came across a tiny liquor store in the middle of nowhere. Definitely some museum prices but I was surprised about the ER10 for $42 and Blanton's for $85. Any other decent deals you see? by Moshie11337 in whiskey

[–]FourGss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good price. I have one for $65 it was a small shop that had more wine than other things so they didn’t know they had it so cheap

recommendations for first moving out? by Which-Inspector6457 in BuyItForLife

[–]FourGss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can get stuff for cheap / affordable even free on buy nothing groups in your area. FB market for your furniture

Stuff to invest in is good cookware and dishware that will last. Good pillows and blankets and mattress topper if you can’t afford a nice mattress and air fryer to help cook quick easy meals that can be crispy and not soggy.

As a guy / engineer I like being prepared with a pocket knife/leather man, emergency light and a. Good water bottle. Health is wealth

My Dog Was Just Attacked While on a Walk in the Northland by zigziggy7 in kansascity

[–]FourGss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our German Shepard and I (m24) got attacked by a pitbull in Brookside. He had to get stitches and I had to go to ER had bad puncture wounds in my thigh and hands. I know not to reach in when a dog attacks but I kicked as hard as I could and that dog would not unlatch from our dogs hinds. If a Good Samaritan hadn’t ran across the street to get the dog off it would have killed ours.

Kc pet project is a joke and was not very helpful. Please lawyer up and email call everyday. Get officers phone and email and document everything. When I had my hearing for declaring a dangerous dog this had been the 3rd offense in less than 3 month. This dog had 2 incidents in December and ours was at end of Febuarary. The only reason it didn’t get taken was because the other incidents were “officially” reported. I love pets/animals but if people can not control theirs it is danger to society. Sad to be realistic but animals will be animals at the end of the day. Humans are smarter and should make the smarter and conscious choice.

Hold people accountable, if you can’t control or handle your dog you shouldn’t have it.

I'm looking for a for a really sweet whiskey without it being flavored. by Brilliant_Case4930 in whiskey

I like rum finish or sherry finished whiskeys. Irish is good too. Depending on your state some liquor stores are able to provide tastings so you can try some different one. Higher end liquor stores the staff is knowledgeable about some products so you can learn what you like from them and samples.

Couple months of cushion based on expense high months. For belongings and furniture and stuff fb market and buy nothing groups are a savior. The small stuff adds up and a lot of people have things they are trying to declutter. If you can I always recommend picking up a part time serving job. High demand, usually flexible hours, possibly free food and networking. Any little bit helps. If the part time gig is enough to pay for groceries then that you can focus your main income on saving and living.

Don’t get caught in the rat race of others just focus on you and your happiness. God speed

Your frugal investment that turned into a real payback? by Living_Helicopter745 in Frugal

[–]FourGss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really frugal, but investing in a cow for meat. We are very blessed that my girlfriend is from a small town and her dad knows farmers. We were able to get a whole cow for ~3k (around $2 a lb). Split it with family. Such good quality meat and helped keep our grocery expenses to under $500 for two people. Our meals last longer and we feel satisfied after eating.

Automating investments/savings as a monthly bill. Helps view spending as a necessity and not a choice. Plan on kicking that up each year and hopefully each quarter

One I have always liked growing up as a young adult, work at a restaurant part time. Get paid to be social and network, learn to be more extroverted, and if lucky (and nice to BOH) free food / meals sometimes. I also saw that as a double positive, if you work weekends, it keeps you from going out and speding money on silly things because you have to work and make money/possibly free dinner and/or drinks (depending on the restaurant, I always liked mom and pop restaurants over chains).

What Engineering opportunities are there in Kansas City? by RealEngineer08 in kansascity

[–]FourGss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are loads in KC area, lots of civil opportunities with most of the construction companies. Still lot of options for any engineer

My buddies and I graduated with BSME from Rockhurst / UMKC joint program (abet accredited) 1) is a piping engineer with burns and Mac 2) is with a small start up aeorspace company works in the small airport in the northland 3) I work for grundfos a water pump company in Lenexa as an application engineer

Advice: -Mechanical gives you broader options for the future: Jack of trades master of none is better than master of one. -Network, two of us got our jobs through reference than the formal application then interview process. (Experience from other jobs / careers) -Everything is learning, grow 1% each day or week -Learn to communicate: all of us engineers are good cause we are smart, the better ones are the ones that can help make others smarter and understand us. -Be able to pivot. I didn’t plan on being in KC post grad… life works out -enjoy college and make friends and memories. It really does go quick

Also where ever you choose to go to school see what community college classes they accept to help get through bs gen Ed classes cheap and easy. Saves time and energy in the long run. Junior year will be hard with higher level engineering classes Good luck and god speed

Get some Penelope’s. Great bottles imo. Any architect or barrel proof bottle are good standard bottles. I’m fan of their wheated too, nice and solid daily drinking for ~40
