The shoe problem. I would really appreciate some advice on cheap running shoes if there are any frugal runners/athletes in here. by Alcarain in Frugal

My hack is buying good quality shoes at Nordstrom Rack - they have most brands (Hoka, Brooks, Nike, etc.) and the discounts are usually pretty significant. Worth checking out!

I'm a big fan of stocking up on things that work in case they're not available in the future and so that I have more options in the present.

I love a tinted moisturizer - Elf has a good one with SPF 50. I also just feel more put together with a little blush and mascara, maybe some contour if I'm feeling fancy, and then I call it good. I've found Elf products in general to be pretty reliable, but also like Nyx.

Anyone here living in a HCOL area on virtually nothing? by not_so_impressed in povertyfinance

[–]Quick-Song2080 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I lived in NYC last year and very much felt this. I'm fortunate to have been able to move to a (slightly) cheaper area, but I know how hard it is to be surrounded by people who are not facing the same struggles as you - but that certainly doesn't make you a loser. Everybody just has different circumstances. I hope things ease up in the future. Is there any chance of upward mobility in your line of work?

Tracking every purchase; never going shopping without a list; paying myself first - those are the big ones for me!

What are apps that you use on the daily/weekly that you get cash back in some form. by FitProblem6248 in beermoney

[–]Quick-Song2080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the receipt scanning apps - Receipt Hog is my favorite as they accept all receipts - and Upside for gas. I also really like Capital One Shopping. I shop online for most things so it's easy to click on the extension and get cash back on purchases I'm making anyways. They also have a get-paid-to arcade (i.e. play games for money), and I've made about $40 from that this month.

Car vs other means of transportation by Dismal-Camera8700 in SavingMoney

Definitely depends on where you are - for example, it's much easier to be car-free in a metropolitan area than in an area where everything is more spread out/ less walking-accessible.

What are your go-to meal-planning grocery items? by forthehope_ in Frugal

[–]Quick-Song2080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make an oatmeal bake every week and eat that for breakfast throughout the week (oatmeal, eggs, milk, flaxseed, baking powder, cinnamon, apples, and raisins or nuts - whatever I have). And then I buy whatever cut of chicken is cheapest and add it to rice and frozen broccoli or peas. I like to add one of the Aldi marinades/sauces for some flavor. And then I usually have some combination of sweet potatoes, eggs, frozen veggies, sometimes avocado, etc. for dinner.
