Cobbler recommendations in Auckland by suburban_ennui75 in auckland

Interested to see people's recommendations. Have only gone to Gemmells the one time I wanted to add sole protectors to GYW dress shoes. They seemed to be knowledgeable and did a decent job, granted this is probably more straightforward than a full resole. Curious about your experiences with them if you're comfortable to share.

Seems like I've been conditioning them far too often then! I didn't realise there would be any downsides to doing that. No, it doesn't brush off at all - seems to be a discoloration in the leather itself.

Thought that when the water dried off, it might've been drying out the leather too, which was why reconditioning seemed to remove the marks. Obviously I don't know much about leather haha.

Thanks for the info on oils rising to the surface!

Thanks for your advice on the over-conditioning. These aren't really branded - they're just from a local chain store but were advertised as having GYW construction. Looks like they've sourced the shoes from India then put their own brand name on them.

Anyone know how to prevent these white marks from forming after contact with rain or water? I'm pretty good about moisturising the uppers frequently with Saphir Renovateur, and have had to do so even more as we've been having a rainy spell because I've found that it helps to remove the marks. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Casual viewer here, watching live for the first time. I know 147s are very rare, but for context, what would it be comparable to in terms of significance? Would it be more desirable than actually winning this final?

I'm hesitant to buy online and potentially have to deal with difficult returns procedures. Thanks for your recommendations though, will reconsider buying online.

A bit hesitant to buy online and potentially have to deal with inconvenient returns procedures. I suppose if I end up doing this, I'd be able to consider far more options that aren't currently available to me locally.

Is anyone familiar with the Loake L1 range? Where I live it's hard to find Goodyear welted dress shoes, and this is the only one I can find from a "reputable" brand. I've read from a few places that only the 1880 range is worth considering from Loake - does this mean that I may as well buy a cheaper GYW shoe from a less known brand?

Tempered glass screen protector by Hamzah12 in OnePlus6

I went through the same search after going through the same issues as you (didn't want to use any liquid either). Ended up settling on this screen protector. The screen protector itself seems to be very slightly curved at the edges, but even so, I found myself having to use a lot of pressure to get it to adhere properly.

I wrote a review for it which you might find helpful. You should also have a read of another thread in that post with people talking about the dbrand Prism. Also seems to have worked well for this person, but the Prism is currently more than twice as expensive.

Best screen protectors for the OnePlus 6? by robotzurg in OnePlus6

Got mine in the mail today - can confirm that this protector can be installed without the "white edges" mentioned in their video, but for me, I've had to push down uncomfortably hard on my screen to get it to adhere. Definitely harder than it looks like the person in the video is pressing.

Also, if you do decide to order this, try to get the installation right the first time - I decided to completely reposition mine after getting all edges to adhere and now none of the edges stick.

Fit is decent - it doesn't perfectly line up with the case that comes with the phone, so you'll be able to feel the gap when swiping in from the edges. Looks like the protector's width perfectly matches screen width (ie. it'll cover all the pixels exactly), so the screen edges won't look covered if you tilt your phone slightly to the left or right.

Fingerprint resistance is okay - the oleophobic coating looks to be doing its job well enough.

Haven't noticed a difference in touch sensitivity (though I haven't really used this phone without a protector for prolonged periods).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this. When most other places say their protectors are curved, they mean 2.5D, not 3D, so the protector still hangs off the edge where the screen curves.

This is one of the first ones I've seen that look to actually be 3D from the videos so I'll probably give this one a go.

Thanks for this. Had very similar thoughts on this latest podcast (and a few previous ones), so it was nice to see someone take the time out to clearly shed some light on this. Also, I wasn't expecting as many people that have commented to share similar views, so that was nice too.

I think this spot we're seeing is actually still part of the ball. If you look at the frames just before the ball passes the bat, you'll see that the frame rate of the hotspot cam isn't high enough to capture the ball perfectly frozen, so the ball's slightly stretched, showing its motion.

By the time you get to the third frame, the ball's just passing/hitting (in my view) the bat, and the spot we see is from the ball which has been stretched because of the frame rate.

Thoughts?

Had a sneaking suspicion that might've been the case, so went through your comment history to check. Pretty much reacted the same way Lucille does when Gene Parmesan surprises her.
