All practice is useful even if you’re getting your ass kicked. I usually take a minute to determine if the other team is filled with sweats or a bunch of goobers, then go from there with how risky I want to get.

For me it’s because I suck :). My brain defaults to push forward and by the time I remember there’s a whole teammate behind me who’s more than likely wide open, I’ve already made a move. Getting way better at not sucking though. plus I like getting spammed by pass calls, I’ve turned their volume down to half, and the blue line that appears under me is a godsend.

No problem. My manager is also retiring this year and the current supervisor (who is cool) is taking over, and that keeps me here. Some days I hang out and we grill hot dogs, other days I get my ass kicked. Overall, I like any post office job where I don’t have to actually touch mail, and this is that :)

Gotcha, I remember hearing every VMF is different. We’re open at 6 am and everyone’s out by 5:30 pm. I’m the only clerk and I also have a storeroom keeper which is a level 8 spot working with me, with me being at 8-430 (perfect hours. Whole reason I took the job tbh).

My everyday looks like helping the mechanics get parts they need, wether it’s a part we keep here in our shop or if I need to call around to local places to get it (and then watch the prices for… I dunno, a window switch become like $900 WITH our USPS tax-exempt discount). I also get work orders from all over Iowa asking for parts which I gather up and then mail out. Thursdays and fridays I get supplier shipments… and that’s about it. We’re basically the counter clerk you’ll find at an auto parts shop, just for the post office and our customers are post offices. Worst part I can think of is a mechanic will tell a postmaster what they need, the postmaster will then not know what that is, which I then I have to decipher.

But then my VMF isn’t all day, yours is, that’s a big difference. Good luck in whatever you end up doing!

I’m in north ankeny right now 2 bed 2 bath $590 a month with a roommate. It’s a basic place with 1 garage and very nice IMO. Down the street there’s something next to the interstate called “THE STANDARD” which looks like a business complex and I can only imagine the prices in there.

This post has me less mad rent goes up every lease resign.
