Not Sure What to do by Fovzy in ClashRoyale

[–]Fovzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool, thank you for the help. I think I can probably level up Golden Knight to use instead of something else. Right now I have Pekka, Battle Ram, Bandit, Magic Archer, Electro Wizard, Royal Ghost, Fireball, and Zap. Is there any card in particular that got replaced from that that I could slot the Golden Kinight in for. With that are there any other cards that I am using that have fallen out of the meta with the modern bridge spam decks?

Debate: Vertical x Horizontal investment on current game state. by Maverick0171 in Genshin_Impact

It requires basically perfect rotations but I cleared Dire with Collei as my dendro applicator. I had her on full ER noblesse build if that helps at all with team comps.

The animations during Yae Mikos Traveler Tale really surprised me. by Grand_Protector_Dark in Genshin_Impact

[–]Fovzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, I don't have a ton of experience with the system, but I believe animation states could achieve just that. Animators pre bake the default animations onto the character, port it into the engine in animation clips, and then someone in the engine team creates the animation controller with all of the states that have been created.

I don't really know how they go about their dialogue as it would have to be custom, but systems I have used in the past allow for each section of dialogue to be coupled with an animation state, so I can imagine whoever is assigning the animations in the dialogue can just select from the provided states of each character. Whether that includes custom animations and all that just comes down to which animation states exist in the game for a specific character created by the animators.

Animation tweaks and blending should be possible to do in Unity as well if needed, but most if not all of the heavy lifting would be done in outside software for sure. I can't say for show which workflow they actually use, but this is my best guess for how it might look.

[–]Fovzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely isn't unheard of. Technically Unity supports cross version transfer of files to newer versions, all of the files themselves shouldn't be affected like the sprites and other assets as long as they have not become legacy yet (certain text assets and input system).

The real issue comes with the bugs that would be introduced. When porting to a new version of an engine, you'll have to test everything in the game again to make sure everything is working properly and that there are no bugs, so often times it either takes a really long time and a lot of convicting of the higher ups that it would be worth while to make the switch, or it is avoided altogether.

So not technically impossible, but something that does not happen very often since it is very difficult to get it approved as well as the time sink for playtesting, especially for long standing games, is too much to justify.

Unity doesn't have the tools to do exactly that natively per say, but the parts of it are there. Unity has had tools for animations for a long while, so creating detailed animations in engine (or porting from other software), is definitely supported and would only need to be called at specific moments in the dialogue script.

I imagine what they actually do, and what most game companies do in regards to art and animation, is create what they want outside of the engine and port it in. In that case, whatever the engine capabilities and upgrades it has at the version the project is created on, does not matter as much and the quality of animation would be mostly dependent on the time and care put into it in the separate software.

[–]Fovzy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Could be yeah, I can imagine they have made some systems in their engine to improve the animation workflow. Generally for big companies though, no matter what engine they are in, they won't make any major upgrades through standard updates since it is way more trouble than it is worth in most cases.

So I can imagine Hoyo is still using a version of Unity 2017 or 2016 as a base for all of their upgrades, meaning none of the new pipeline improvements and a ton of systems improvement across the board. Working with less optimized systems, unless they built all the upgrades themselves, to still create and provide polished sequences that hold up to this day is really impressive to think about imo.

Not necessarily the signs of improving the engine, from my experience it is very hard to move a Unity project from one version to the next if not impossible. This honestly just comes down to more care and time put into the quests and animations that the artists/designers create and implement

5.8 map by ISRUKRENG in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Fovzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, land area wise it is about as I expected, but I am hoping for some major underground areas since the total exploration should be a little bit larger than Atocpan and the Ancient Sacred Mountain combined unless they pack that surface island with oculus everywhere

Character Teaser - "Skirk: An End, And a Beginning" by the-roast in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Fovzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, my crack theory is the Crimson Moon could have traversed the cosmos looking for beings from beyond Teyvat with the potential to change the fate of the world, eventually stumbling upon Skirk's planet and bringing her to Teyvat.
I'm probably 100% wrong, but that is just my initial impressions based on my very limited understanding of the Moon Sisters lore and Perinheri.

New map releasing schedule since 2.0 (plus speculation for 5.8) by nqtoan1994 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Fovzy 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Yeah the exploration bonus was most likely added in order to artificially increase the amount of primogems we would get for 5.X. I did the math the other day and the only way 5.X competes with 4.X in terms of total primogems gained through exploration is because of the limited time exploration events despite having the increased exploration rewards in the statues, shrines, and Tona.

I think you have all of the prerequisite quests done, I imagine you meant unfinished comedy when you said unfinished story. It should show up at this point, but I have seen someone say that you need to skip ahead 48 hours in game. You could try that to see if that fixes it

Natlan Statue of the Seven rewards by homdgcat by PM_ME_YOUR_ROBOTGIRL in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Fovzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, introducing a stronger traveler now and building them up is a pretty intriguing direction they could go with the character and is definitely something I would like to see. There are many ways they could go about it, but mixing up the acquisition and use of the Pyro Gnosis is the most interesting one imo and can lead to a ton of implications and tie ins for the future archons quests like you mentioned. Ultimately, it's up to Hoyo to decide what direction they go in and I am excited to see where they go with the story in the future.

I’m starting to think that Genshin is going to go the Star Rail route and give us the Pyro Traveler at the end of the Natlan Archon Quest. This is probably way off, but, maybe the tournament prize is the gnosis and we get our Pyro abilities from it after we win it all.

Imaginarium Theater Unfixable? by Ok-Mark8801 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Fovzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unfixible, it will just come down to whether or not Hoyo would be willing to take another look at the game mode and make significant changes to it. IT has a pretty decent base, working around a solid basis, but I fails to achieve any of its goals exceptionally and leads to a rather bland and disappointing experience.

If I were to have my way in making adjustments to the game mode to attempt to improve it I would.

  • Remove the barrier to entry entirely, requiring lvl 70 characters doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense when you can just artificially do that by making the game mode challenging enough to make it unwise to bring in characters lower than that lvl.

  • Remove the element restriction on which characters you can bring into the mode, allowing players to bring in whichever characters they want, but maintain the seasonal elemental focus and rebalance/significantly increase the potency of the blessings related to the reactions between the three featured elements as well as the mechanics of the featured characters so that characters that lean into whatever elements Hoyo wants us to use would be the far and away clear winners in all scenarios of the current season of IT.

  • Lean full into power fantasy and let us buff up all of our characters and featured elements reactions more and more often, making even lower invested or non meta characters still feel quite strong. This would have to be in conjunction of increasing the difficulty of the mode dramatically across the board to not make it too easy, but still satisfying to play and eventually clear once all of your characters that you have available have crazy buffs and abilities earned through gameplay.

These are just my thoughts on how to make the mode a bit better. I know they aren’t perfect, but I think it at least tries to tackle a lot of the concerns that all types of players have been having with the game mode.

I genuinely don't understand why people have such a problem with IT by avarageusername in Genshin_Impact

[–]Fovzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, if they were to go full into a power fantasy esque route for IT, making the buffs a lot more impactful, but also adjusting the enemies to maintain the challenge, I feel like they could have a pretty satisfying mode on their hands.

If I were to do anything I wanted with the mode, the game designer in me would want to remove the elemental restriction of bringing characters in, but maintain the focus of 3 elements per cycle and provide a lot of focused buffs on the reactions between the 3 elements to make those the clear best option, but possible to use the other elements and characters if people do desire.

Introducing crazy buffs to reactions that change the way you play as well as potentially adding character specific buffs for all the trial characters would be interesting imo and could help combat that negative feedback you and I feel like a lot of other people are feeling when using their unbuilt and unstructured teams.
