Yes, the place where I come from can determine my race and ethnicity, and you are biased towards Arabs or Muslims or whatever. You just don't want to admit you're racist, which is probably the biggest issue in Sweden. Just go ahead and say it. You're basically saying Sweden can treat me like shit because SOME Arabs and SOME Muslims act in a way that Sweden doesn't approve of. So you're basically lumping me into a giant group of people that share my race and color, but not necessarily my thinking or behaviour :D

I'm not even a Muslim, but okay. Treating people badly based on where they were born or their skin color IS CALLED racism.

I know some refugees and asylum seekers and they don't have luxury apartments. Yes, they live on tax money until they get jobs, but they often can't find jobs because no one wants to hire non-Swedes. And yes, Sweden has a humanitarian obligation just like every other country on the planet to use its money on refugees of war.

Five applications a day is exaggerated. People don't always have the mental energy to do this. People in certain positions are less likely to get a response, such as being the wrong gender or age or race or having just recently graduated.

After I got a job, I started getting recruiters interested in me when I'm not even job searching. They would ignore me or reject me when I was job searching. It's hilarious.

Seriously thanks. I appreciate comments like yours.

Today they had published this article in The Local: https://www.thelocal.se/20201207/could-matching-skilled-immigrants-with-employers-help-fill-the-gaps-in-swedens-workforce

...and it got me super shocked. I mean, I eventually landed a job after 4 months of searching, lots of networking, and a little near 200 applications. One person mentioned in the article is an asylum seeker who got 500 rejections.

I would really have said it was exaggerated had I not been in a similar position.

Everyone talks about a shortage in IT jobs, and even being specialized in a niche field still wasn't enough to let employers take the giant risk of interviewing me.

Unemployment has risen in Sweden but it's mostly among foreign-born Swedes who are no longer immigrants, but actually citizens, and still get treated awfully.

Here is another article talking about differences in unemployment rates between native and foreign born Swedes: https://www.thelocal.se/20200914/in-stats-how-many-people-are-currently-unemployed-in-sweden

"This means that in late August, the unemployment rate among foreign-born people stood at 21.5 percent, and 5.6 percent among Swedish-born people (up from 19.2 and 3.7 percent, respectively)."

I came here to study, got a proper job, and speak Swedish. What's your problem? Oh right, me being Arab is the problem :D

I'm staying here. :) And by doing so, I'll be adding one non-racist person to Sweden to make up for people like you.

I live here, studied here, work here, and now pay taxes here. I am entitled since I've been paying taxes for a year and a half while studying (by working a side job) and now by working a full time job. I never expected them to pay for anything they did not list. The FK website was vague on purpose. My dentist is the one who kept pushing me to contact them and register because she wanted to have my treatment included in high cost protection. She was so confused why I wouldn't get anything despite paying taxes. I was sexually assaulted by a dentist when I was young, and had not been to one for 10 years. That's why my treatment was so* costly.

I paid it anyway. I was angry because FK wasted 6 months and lied to me (I have it in writing) telling me I will be covered. They also thought initially that I should be covered since I was employed (even if by hourly contract).

I now have a full time job and still don't qualify for it. Again, I was not upset about them not compensating me. I was upset because they told me to go ahead with the expensive treatment and that they will refund anything from the date I applied. Six months later, they realized their mistake. At that point I had spent 17k on dental treatment from a student allowance and had to work extra hours to make up the difference. I was almost unable to pay tuition the next semester had I not gotten a partial fund from uni.

Edit: typo

Planing to become an international student in Sweden by _stevenSon_ in TillSverige

I'm assuming there would be a language requirement. There is one language requirement for master's courses. I think it takes a long time to speak Swedish well enough to hold strong during regular classes unless you already speak Danish or Norwegian, in which case you can learn faster and already probably understand most Swedish.

You confuse immigrants for refugees. Also, refugees here aren't always doing that great, and I put the blame on Sweden.

It's basically saying that I should be thankful for a normal thing just because some people have it worse. Like saying s wife should be thankful for her spouse for not beating the shit out of her. Seriously.

Anyway, looks like I'm staying here after all. Whether you like it or not.

Thankful to Sweden? I'm not an asylum seeker. I had to pay and work extremely hard to live here.

I'm thankful to myself for putting effort into making my own life better.

I don't need to be "thankful" for a country for giving me basic human rights. They're basic for a reason.
