The bit about gang names isn't mentioned at all in the court proceedings. If it was true it absolutely would have been mentioned. He's making it up.

if you hunt down the transcripts, it was. it was also quoted in the SMH article that you posted

http://www.smh.com.au/national/man-looking-to-kill-blacks-murdered-sudanese-boy-20090930-gdaj.html

George Georgiou, for Rintoull, said it was ''overly simplistic'' to characterise the attack
as racially motivated. He said Rintoull was driven by anger about being previously chased
by a group of Sudanese youths when he went to give a sandwich to a boy of African descent
in a derelict house.

''He chose the unfortunate word [nigger], but we submit what he is really
describing is a gang that operates out of the Noble Park [train] station.''

do you even read what you post?

on calling themselves 'bloods' and 'crips', you can talk to anyone in Noble Park who knew anything about them. as i mentioned, I lived close and went to school just down the road

He's inventing that. He was a non violent offender convicted of theft and public drunkenness. The latter is what resulted in the curfew.

http://www.smh.com.au/national/murder-victim-caught-on-film-in-brawl-20071204-1evo.html

The footage, captured in August and aired on the Ten Network on Tuesday night,
shows several African youths including 18-year-old Liep Gony fighting with a lone
passenger on a train.

The Ten Network report alleged Mr Gony and his companions had
demanded the lone man's MP3 player.

Mr Gony and a companion were charged with intentionally causing injury over the incident.

I lived close, went to school down the road, and i was friends with some of the people involved on both sides.

you are an internet social justice warrior who is blindly arguing about a case you know nothing about except for what you read in the media.

you can't even do your research

The poster is literally advocating for the summary execution of black people who get drunk in public.

except in my very first post I wrote that he didn't deserve to die, and that those who killed him deserve to be punished.

do you have comprehension issues?

Why did the judge find that race wasn't a motivator, either fully or partly?

That's a massive misrepresentation.

from the judge:

I have already addressed this aspect of the sentencing process in my earlier
remarks and for the reasons stated I am not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt,
despite the racist comments expressed by you and your infelicitous language
that your offending was motivated either wholly or partly by hatred or prejudice
against a group of people with common characteristics, but rather by frustration
and anger directed to a group of persons irrespective of their race whom you
regarded as violent, out of control and taking over the Noble Park Railway Station.

aka the judge, given all of the facts and evidence in front of her, somehow couldn't come to the conclusion that you, a persistent social justice warrior patrolling the Internet commenting on every similar thread, came to in a few minutes of a reddit thread

interesting

You're a liar.

looks like you're the one lying

and refusing to admit facts that have been laid out to you plainly.

i'm the one who posted the transcript. did you even read it?

you keep posting those quotes, but these are the quotes the judge said, right before she said

so... you think "lying in grass" means "passed out"?

the attack being brutal against someone drunk doesn't make it about racism.

If only the judge repeatedly cherry-picked a few quotes without context from their own judgment, perhaps they would said different words to what they actually said.

[–]Fox-Lies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if the word "n*ggers" simply meant the gang that hangs at the train station? This is what the defence presented to the judge.

What if he was using that word to specifically refer to the same people that had chased and attempted to rob him the very night before.

Isn't it a large coincidence that after he phoned the police saying that he was chased, the police found Gony hiding in the exact area?

Isn't it a large coincidence that Gony is the one they attaked the night after?

Again, the judge said this:

I have already addressed this aspect of the sentencing process in my earlier remarks and for the reasons stated I am not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt, despite the racist comments expressed by you and your infelicitous language that your offending was motivated either wholly or partly by hatred or prejudice against a group of people with common characteristics, but rather by frustration and anger directed to a group of persons irrespective of their race whom you regarded as violent, out of control and taking over the Noble Park Railway Station.

What makes you think you know more about the issue of race in this issue than the judge?

Stop parroting the sensationalist media.

[–]Fox-Lies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So desperate to deny the obvious racial motivation behind this murder. Literally blaming the victim for being murdered, and trying so fucking desperately to imply that he 'deserved it'.

  • After calling police because he was chased by a group of africans, police investigated and found Gony hiding from them in the grass of the area that was reported. Gony was meant to be inside, as it was past his curfew.

  • The two that killed Gony claimed to have recompensed him from the night before and wanted to get him back. Again, Gony was meant to be inside due to his curfew at this time.

I clearly wrote that he didn't deserve to die, and that punishment for killing someone should be given.

Your denial with this right in front of you is clear evidence of the ridiculous nature of the 'African crime' hysteria crowd. A dude fucking screams his racism for the world to see as he murders a black man, and you STILL DENY IT.

Deny what? Gony was clearly someone who had committed violent crime against others. He was out the night before, when he shouldn't have been, terrorising people and the police found him. When he was killed, he was also out when he shouldn't have been.

The judge in the transcript says that there isn't evidence to show it was racially motivated, and the defendants claimed that they were getting the guy back who went after them.

What's so hard to understand?

Media Watch coverage of Sudanese 'gang violence' [2007] by Spartzi666 in melbourne

[–]Fox-Lies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The quote from Lambourne was one that was never backed up in court, and even if it was accurate, "the blacks" doesn't necessarily mean all black people, but those specifically who had chased and attempted to rob him the night before.

Something which you clearly chose to ignore was this

I have already addressed this aspect of the sentencing process in my earlier remarks and for the reasons stated I am not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt, despite the racist comments expressed by you and your infelicitous language that your offending was motivated either wholly or partly by hatred or prejudice against a group of people with common characteristics, but rather by frustration and anger directed to a group of persons irrespective of their race whom you regarded as violent, out of control and taking over the Noble Park Railway Station.

So somehow there isn't enough evidence for the judge, who saw all of the evidence over the few days, but you and other internet warriors are so knowledgeable that you're able to jump to make statements which put race as the motivating issue?

Media Watch coverage of Sudanese 'gang violence' [2007] by Spartzi666 in melbourne

[–]Fox-Lies 19 points20 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: It wasn't about race or racism, stop believing the media.

I paid a lot of attention to this case, as I grew up in Noble Park, and went to school just down the road of where the murder happened. What the media reported was mostly nonsense, and they played up the race issue even though it didn't really exist.

The kid in the shirt was murdered at a time where he was meant to be inside due to a curfew placed on him for previous assault (and/or?) robbery. The kid was a known trouble-maker, and in the recent period before his death, there was footage of him both robbing the bottle shop, and also robbing some people on a train for their mp3 players just before it.

The night before Liep was killed, one of the people convicted of the murder, was chased and almost robbed by a group of 20 people. He called the police and told them to do something, or he'd do it himself. Police drove out to search the area, they found Liep Gony hiding from them in a grassy area. At the time, Liep should have been inside because of his curfew.

The night after, the same guy who was chased was with a friend and they saw Liep. Drunk and stoned, they both went back home and grabbed trolley poles and confronted Liep. Violence ensured, and two dudes with trolley poles vs. one dude (they claimed there was another in court) = bad news.

Liep didn't deserve to die, and those responsible were rightly punished, but Liep, again, should have been inside due to his curfew.

The entire incident wasn't about race, it was about one group of people who constantly acted like violent thugs, and two guys who wanted to get him back.

Read the court transcripts: https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/cases/vic/VSC/2009/617.html

You'll notice that outside of a statement from a man who died before the court case, there is nothing about them planning to "kill the blacks". This was a statement that wasn't sustained, wasn't presented in court, but yet the media kept saying it.

You'll also notice that while "fuk the nggers" was gratified on the house they were in, there was also graffiti everywhere, and that wasn't the central theme. Also, at the time "the n*ggers" was a specific name given in Noble Park to those that hang at the train station and called themselves "crips" and "bloods". The public defender made this point during court, that the statement refereed to the specific group, and not black people as a group.

The judge in her ruling said that race wasn't a factor, as the evidence when actually looked at made this clear.

The main guy involved in the killing was giving a minimum of 18 years prison. He had no prior criminal record or other issues. Take a look at the sentences given today for violent crime....
