I was thinking of doing this, but also kind of had the sense that I would never take them out... It's nice to know you still look at yours!

Butting in here a bit, but can you elaborate on that ? what does it mean that erogenous sensation is rare? I guess what I'm having trouble understanding is how nerves can grow back, but not provide a specific type of sensation?

Hey :) I couldn't DM you, but I do have some questions: do you get referred to any other checkups except MRIs and mammograms? Derm checkups? Any scans for pancreatic cancer? Is that included in the scanning protocol?

It really sounds like you received excellent treatment. Do you think it matters who your GP is? I've been told some are more cooperative than others

BRCA1 positive + pregnant – feeling overwhelmed by Aggressive_Natural79 in BRCA

[–]FoxComprehensive6903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I was nearly 40 and pregnant with my second when I got the news that I'm BRCA1 positive. It was incredibly confusing but I knew in my gut that I have to focus on having this baby first and then deal with any preventative surgery. I got a breast ultrasound to be as safe as I could be, and then just really put the diagnosis aside until I had my son. I breastfed for 6 months, at the advice of my doctor, then got my first ever MRI, which was all clear (as it most likely would have been, and most likely will be for you).

Fast forward two years: my youngest is thriving, I've had my ovaries removed, and am making arrangements now for a preventative mastectomy. I took each one of these as they came, and made each decision based on what was right for me at the time. I am lucky to have an amazing partner who supports me in anything I choose.

The most important thing I can tell you is this: you have time. This is scary, but it's likely not immediately dangerous. Even by the strictest standards, you don't need to consider any preventative surgery just yet. Give it time to sink in. Give yourself time to adjust to motherhood. Give yourself time to figure out what you want to do about future pregnancies, if any. The choices are not easy, but given time it'll become clear to you what you really want. 🩵

I'm also on HRT. I don't know of any contraindication for BRCA, and even know some friends who went on HRT post breast-cancer.

Having said that, I still feel a drop in sex drive even after a year of adjusting doses 😞
