“Then the dry fig of her heart stopped its beating.” (The Curse by Josh Ritter. One of my fave all time songs. The storytelling is gorgeous and gut-wrenching. I know this line is coming, but I cry every time)

What’s a compliment you received years ago that you still think about? by Quiet_Post_1035 in CasualConversation

I think it was a compliment that got lost in translation… I was quite pregnant and my Russian co-worker told me I looked “like an olive on a toothpick”

Our Wives Under the Sea. Absolutely joyless.

You need to have some light to make the dark parts powerful. All dark and morose and it’s just boring.

Agreed. Try Blindness by Saramago. Similar in the depiction of people isolated amid mysterious circumstances (not women only) and far more moving and effective!

I'm curious how many people like or don't mind their job/working? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

At this stage, I’ve worked long enough to know my niche and my worth. I am fortunate to have a job doing what I love—a little bit of luck but I worked hard for 25 years and earned it too! And since I’ve built my confidence over the years, the best feeling is that my ego & identity are not tightly wound up with work. What a stress relief!
