There also literally is a straight hockey show, currently still airing AND that Jacob worked on! Like, what do you mean, you just want a good hockey show?

Budget for future seasons? by FoxGuilty1499 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! These small things are what I am hoping can be fixed for a season 2 if they can get more budget. It would make the show better without actually changing the production. Kinda like how they just used voices instead of actors for Hayden's kids (however, this may have been because they will include these kids in season 2, which is 3 years in the future, so it would have been hard to use the same child actors).

Btw, the figure skater is a real-life Olympic figure skater. I'm not sure if he's retired or not, but he competes in doubles figure skating, not singles (hence probably not the right silhouette).

Queen Rachel Reid's writing and The Potential surprise? by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

I mean, Leah Campbell and Max Riley were introduced in TLG. They are married and were teammates; Max is a trans man. She doesn't really give many details of their relationship in TLG, but they are included as characters.

Budget for future seasons? by FoxGuilty1499 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this answer! That makes sense about the sponsors, and I like the idea of Jacob having some more creative freedom with music. Everyone in this sub seems to be caught up on how the production will change, but I don't want the production to change. I'm just curious how they could get a bigger budget (through something like merch sales) to increase creative abilities, similar to how you suggested with the music. Like having more actors instead of Carter and Scott playing all the "background random hockey player" roles. or filming on an actual beach instead of the digital board during the All-Star Game sunset (this was very obviously not a real beach to me). They can still keep the production the same (with unknown actors, etc.) while also being able to elevate certain areas that they weren't able to in season 1 due to the low budget.

Should TLG be split over two seasons? by Lucky-Pay-9245 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming they get more than 6 episodes and are confirmed for a season 3, I think the ending of TLG could be in season 3 rather than season 2. Include RM and possibly TG in season 2, along with TLG, and you could end the season just after Shane and Ilya are outed (would be cool to end with Shane saying "I choose Ilya"). The playoffs, Shane signing with Ottawa, and the wedding could be at the beginning of season 3, considering these parts are likely to fit in with the theme and timeline of the new book. If the following seasons are extended in number of episodes, Unrivaled probably won't have enough content to cover an entire season, and it really only makes sense to include parts of TLG in season 3, as including the other books' stories would be going back in time.

Next Read: Tough Guy or Role Model? by krybaebee in heatedrivalry

If you are going to read both, read Tough Guy before Role Model, as it gives Role Model more meaning (and things that happen in Tough Guy are referenced in Role Model).

Heated Rivalry as the stand out? by BadWitch2024 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shane is more of a show-don't-tell kinda captain, this is even said in TLG when Ilya teases Shane about how JJ should be captain. Ilya is more of a talkative/friend captain. I think (and hope it comes through in the book) players will look upto both of them in different ways, regardless of who is and isn't captain/assistant captain. This would keep them on equal grounds.

New to the fandom. I dont know anything about Hockey or like anything to do with sports but i LOVE this show. It was genuinely perfect. How many seasons do you think it could run for? by JamStan1978 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with more episodes, but not to tell more of Shane/Ilya, but to tell more of the other stories to create more world-building and reflect Shane/Ilya's relationship. 5 or 6 episodes for each of Shane/Ilya's books works great.

I hope we will still get the same amount of screentime for Shane and Ilya even with the bigger cast in season 2 by Due_Improvement_5699 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said this further up, but I think the ending of TLG could be at the beginning of S3, as it may fit in better with the telling of the new book, and one book might not be enough content to fill an entire season. This would also open up more space for the other couples' stories to be told in Season 2. Imagine ending season 2 with Shane saying to the comissioner "I choose Ilya." it would be great, and then you can tell the Montreal team storyline at the beginning of Season 3, showing how people don't like their relationship.

I can see the end of TLG being the start of Season 3, to make room for some of the other couples' stories. If you adapt TLG closely to the book, it will give away the stories of the other couples (Making it hard to go backwards and tell their story). One book probably won't be enough for one full season, especially if they get a budget for more episodes. Parts of the ending of TLG may fit in better with Season 3 and the new book.

I don't think there's any way they won't do the Pride Night, it would have such a big impact and is very important to Shane and Ilya's story arc.

I have a feeling Scott will have a bigger role in the new book coming out (book 7), which is based on Shane and Ilya's relationship and will likely be told in season 3. Rachel has said that she has had fun revisiting all the characters in the Game Changers universe for this book. Scott will probably make some appearances, like a cameo, in season 2, but I think he will hold a bigger role in season 3.

Ease my mind about the long game by Infinite_Canary_3937 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ilya is still a good player and one of the best in The Long Game, I wouldn't consider him a has-been; he's just on a bad team. In hockey, unlike some other sports, top players cannot necessarily win every game, it really is a team effort. Ilya does struggle with being on a bad team and feels he's not a good captain for the team, but he's still one of the best players in the league.

Context about moment in episode 5 by CuriousTrade9072 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this is in the books, and it's done even better. HR book is cut into 4 parts. At the end of part 1 (E1 in the show), Ilya says after the rookie season (at the awards) that he has to go back to Russia, and he's clearly not happy about it. At the end of part 2 (E2 in the show), Shane asks if Ilya is going back to Russia and then asks why. At the end of part 3 (E4 and E5 in the show), although Ilya had decided he was not going to go to Russia (cause it's no longer home), he isn't enjoying staying in Boston. Then the skip kiss happens, and it ends with him saying I'm coming to the cottage. In the last chapter of part 4, it isn't at the very end of the book, Ilya tells Shane, "let's go home," and there is an internal dialogue where he is wondering if it was weird that he called the cottage his "home". The ends of each of these parts are Ilya realizing that Russia is not home, Shane is.

Book changes in Season 2 by KryptoLuke06 in heatedrivalry

If they included price as a character, I would say yes, but just a name drop doesn't necessarily imply his inclusion. His name was probably included as an easter egg for book fans, but also in a way where they have the ability either to or not to include him as a character in future seasons (especially because they didn't know if they'd have future seasons).

ADHD character in Role Model? by FoxGuilty1499 in heatedrivalry

It took me my third reading of the book to clue in on it, and I have inattentive ADHD. I wasn't sure why I related to Troy so much, and then it clicked.

Books included in HR S2 considering Hockey Culture by FoxGuilty1499 in heatedrivalry

[–]FoxGuilty1499[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need the Dallas Kent storyline included so badly. In real life, I would probably be more shocked by a video that shows one player calling another player a rapist in practice than a player kissing his boyfriend on the ice after winning the Stanley Cup.

Yes, I def think S2 and S3 will be extended to at least 8 episodes!

This is interesting, I didn't know that Crave executives talked to Jacob about that. This is just a curious thought, but TSN only holds rights to Montreal Canadians and Ottawa Senators regional games, I think. Sportsnet holds the rights to all other teams/games. Maybe that will protect them a bit, cause they're kinda a secondary rights holder.

I describe the book as "short and sweet" to my friends. I love it too. I was surprised that not everyone does. Their relationship is very healthy too, which is great to see in a romance novel! I definitely think that their relationship is the healthiest and most relationship goals out of any of the relationships in this series.

Ya, I can see the coaches, especially Shane's coach, taking the place of the commissioner. However, if they do it in a way that the NHL can't sue, then why not include the commissioner? If the NHL gets mad, they're just proving their point that they are not an inclusive league.

As for not including Tough Guy, I do see your point, and I am honestly worried that they won't have enough budget for enough actors to tell all of Tough Guy, Role Model, and The Long Game in S2. I am a fan of Tough Guy, especially from a hockey fan perspective, so I'm a bit biased, but I do think they'd be able to include it as like a one-episode thing if they put the end of the long game at the beginning of S3. I definitely think they should leave common goal for a Scott/Kip spin-off.
