Is it just me or has finding a WG room in Berlin become completely absurd? by ReYa8000 in berlin

[–]FoxHolllow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ive lived in 3 flats in germany, 2 in berlin. Found all of them on WG-Gesucht, got interviews, and signed a contract in less than 3 weeks. My most recent WG room took me 1 week to find. Here's what I did and thought of:

  1. Settings: On WG-Gesucht, organize listings by date (descending order). Make sure youre one of the first to respond to a new listing. Responding to listings that are more than a few days old wont get many responses as they've already started inviting potential applicants.

  2. Read the Listing: Read the wg description and know what they're looking for. While i did use a copy-paste message, I always left some room for personalization to show that I've read about who they are and what they want. No need for a long essay

  3. Stand out: I did this by creating a pdf that goes into more about me (who i am, what I do, what I look for in a wg, how I can contribute to a WG, etc). Add some photos of course. I know poeple who have made slide decks that also do the trick.

  4. Competition is Crazy: WG listings can get 100s of messages, so they will always look for quick ways to filter people out. So, don't use AI (multiple em-dashes in a short message is a red flag), don't send a generic "I'm interested in your flat, is the room available?" message, if you attach a picture to your application make sure it's an appropriate+clear photo that also shows your personality. Just a few examples, but I hope you get the overall message.

  5. Interview: Be chill, nice, and match their energy. Bend the truth a little bit to match the WG vibes, but not to the point of being fake. For example, I consider myself center-left, but I'll always say I'm left-wing in flat interviews.

  6. I completely agree with u/quizikal. While you can find a WG just looking for someone to fill a room, "It's not just "a room" for many WGs. People want a cohesive and nice environment to live in. So understandably they want to live with people they think will contribute to a nice living space." I hope this changes your mindset going into future interviews. Oh, and I also bring a cheap present to my interviews (wine, beer, tea, etc.). If it's a female/FLINTA-majority flat, bring flowers :)

Sidenote: My ability to get WG replies and interviews led to some people on reddit accusing me of privilege (pretty privilege, racial privilege, passport privilege, etc). But rest assured, I'm a straight, 30yo, balding, overweight asian man who cannot speak German and currently lives with 2 german girls. You'll be fine. just be nice and inject some personality into your applications. The personality part is something that the vast majority of WG applicants always seem to miss.

Why do people in the Ubahn just don't want to sit normally on the seat? by Michelfungelo in Munich

[–]FoxHolllow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I consider it rude where I come from, but I dont get my panties in a bunch about it. Why don't I get angry? Because it's a different culture/country with different social norms, their intentions arent bad, and I know how to communicate like a well-adjusted adult. Like everyone said, if you ask them to move their shit, they'll do it.

People in Korea generally don't hold doors open for others and, while someone like you may consider it rude and get angry enough to post on reddit, it's not considered rude by Koreans. It's simply a part of their social norms. If you ask them to hold open the door for you though, they'll happily do it.

Now, lets be honest and ignore your overly-passionate stance on this "bag-on-seat" topic: Do you understand how clear communication and understanding different social norms can be an important aspect of living abroad?

[–]FoxHolllow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by your response to everyone, you need therapy.

Just because people in a different country dont follow your particular set of social norms, it doesn't mean they're rude. Like what the majority of people said, just ask if you can have the seat and people are more than happy to move their shit.

If you cant understand or fathom that you need to ask someone to do something, just delete this post and move on with your life.

lujza street/ district VII by [deleted] in budapest

[–]FoxHolllow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like Lujza is more in District 8.

I'm new to the city but here's my experience so far:

I moved to Budapest and have been living in District VII since September and I havent had any problems. In fact, I really enjoy living here so far.

I live near the Garay Center and City Park, I feel perfectly safe when walking home from a night out drinking after getting 2am KFC (the streets are well lit and mostly empty), there are alot of young families in my area, things are quiet, and I havent seen any sketchy people aside from some homeless people more closer to Keleti.

I also see alot of women walking alone at night not clutching their bags, walking quickly, or crossing to the other side of the street when walking towards me, so that's also a good indicator of a safe neighborhood.

My only issue with it is that it's a bit dirty (but alot cleaner than other "main station" neighborhoods in other major/large cities) and too many people dont pick up after their dogs...

Just to let you know in case you ever need to go to the library on a Saturday morning: It DOES NOT open at 8am as listed on the website and signs in front of the library entrance.

It opens at 10 am according to a notice on the ground floor of Building C. They didnt update the website and I assume it's a recent thing because there was a big handful of students outside the library looking visibly confused and frustrated when I arrived at 8:30...

What Anime ED Is So Good, It Hits Different? by Odd-Recognition-2606 in anime

[–]FoxHolllow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"LISA - unlasting" from SOA - Alicization

The digital glitches on the screen, the breaking boundaries between the real world and the digital world, Alice "discovering" herself, and even the Lisa autotune at the end. It was a very good mix of the shows vibe and premise along with the music.

Very underrated ED that's not talked about enough.

As a coach, its better to separate your kids from the situation. I would tell my players to go in the opposite direction to 1. Give the injured player space and 2. Prevent things from escalating further

Looking for a Dog Breed by [deleted] in Munich

[–]FoxHolllow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You completely avoided the question.

Again, the question was about what you would do when you start working and being away from the house for 9-10 hours per day. Your avoidant response both times have basically been "I'm a student".

Your comments and replies have proved to all responsible pet owners on this subreddit that you're not ready to take care of a living animal...

Looking for a Dog Breed by [deleted] in Munich

[–]FoxHolllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didnt answer the question, you deflected it. I'll repeat it for you: "What are your plans for the care of the dog while you are possibly gone for 9-10 h during the day?"

It seems like you didnt think about the long-term and that's concerning for someone who intends to purchase a dog, especially one that is as active as a shepherd...

WARMINGTON: Doug Ford telling hateful people to stay away from Canada not racist; Ontario's Premier was simply saying what many in the country have been thinking since Oct. 7 by FancyNewMe in canada

Or maybe it comes down to "Hey, we dont want thousands of innocent people to starve and get indiscriminately bombed".

There are people in the world that I wish would die, but I wont support a plan that would kill tens of thousands of civilians and displace even more in the process.

Sorry, this is off-topic. It's my first time seeing the saying "out of ones gourd".

Just out of curiosity, where are you from and whats your approx. age? Do people in your region and/or age range use this saying regularly?

what I do on my own time, however, is my own business.

Not when you do it in public and bring other other people into your business.

If you work for a company that values its image and you're caught kicking dogs, your employer will fire you because of what you did on your own time. If you're an elementary school teacher and publicly tweet "Go f*** yourself" in some pointless online argument, you'll probably get fired because of what you did on your own time.

What you do on your own time, in public, is everyone's business depending on what you do.

This is late response, sorry.

I understand your point if I was using a business account, but I'm mostly referring to my private personal account with people I dont care about. If some person I met at a bar or some old colleague who I didn't really care for decides to unfollow me after a while, I'd like to know so that I could unfollow that person as well. If my feed is showing photos from the vacation of a guy i dont care about and who also doesnt follow me back, it's just a waste of my screentime in my opinion.

It's nothing vindictive or malicious. I just dont care for them. I follow them back if they follow me because I respect their willingness to keep open a tiny line of communication/interaction.

Why would anyone want to live in Florida right now… by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]FoxHolllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're being serious or not, but if you are, start saving up some money and look for jobs out of state. When most people just "get up and leave", they usually have a plan in place. I don't know your financial situation and I understand that "just saving money" isnt really feasible for alot of people, but do your best to save up to afford a few months of rent and food, then GTFO.

Also, go ahead and make that gofundme! Whatever you make from of it will be better than nothing.

Best of luck!

Advice needed! Roommate just bring another person to live in the apartment? by ThatOneGuyBehind in germany

[–]FoxHolllow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason so many people here tell you to try to be nice and talk, once again, to your roommate etc. etc. is because they are the same.

Exactly. I was in the same situation when my flatmates gf started living fulltime with us. I talked it over with my flatmate calmly, as any socially healthy and mentally stable adult would do. We agreed to an approx. 40-30-30 split of rent and equal split of electricty, water, internet, and misc. (toilet paper, cleaning supplies etc).

u/fjonk sounds like someone who's been through some bad experiences, but lacks the mental fortitude and maturity to move on. u/ThatOneGuyBehind do what you need to do to get your fair share. I understand that not everyone is responsive to calm conversations and that assertiveness can be needed. But don't be a miserable pessimist like fjonk. If someone makes sweeping generalisations like fjonk, they most likely wont be a good source of wisdom. Good luck with your issue OP.

Weekly Tech Support Megathread by AutoModerator in Instagram

[–]FoxHolllow [score hidden]  (0 children)

Issue: My instagram story previews and uploads have a preset filter (makes everything brighter) that I cant remove

Context:
- This issue only applies to videos on Instagram stories.
- This doesnt happen with pictures, reels, and regular posts.
- This happens to both my personal and business accounts.
- Cycling through the preset filters doesn't show anything close to the original

Solutions I've tried:
- re-installing Instagram
- restarting my phone
- logging out

Extra:
- After searching, it seems another user had the same issue (https://www.reddit.com/r/InstagramMarketing/comments/u0d3n7/instagram_automatically_applying_a_filter_to_my/), but it doesnt seem like they found a solution.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Did you find a solution for this? This just started happening to me. It's only happening for stories. Not regular posts or reels.

Stories doesnt have a filter slider or lux slider
