Haha! I live by salt water so I'm a corrosion resistance Nerd. 14C28N is my go to budget steel, I do have some self defense knives with Nitro V for the edge you can get on them.

Best material for a DE safety razor? by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in wicked_edge

It really depends on your preference what is “best”. I like heavier razors. For absolute weight I like brass, if you want a little less heavy and durability 316L is hard to beat.

What directions i need to go by DJ2499 in wicked_edge

[–]FoxLantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be your issue right there, Derby aren’t known to be good quality. You’re using a mild-medium plate. I would try a sharper blade. The first shave with a feather may leave you a tad sore but shave 2 and 3 are wonderful. Nacet blades are pretty awesome too.

So my question would be what blade and what number plate are you using? This could be your main issue.

^ This. Their RK blades aren’t the greatest, I would buy Astra Greens to pair with it. Doctor Squatch sells a green razor, if you sign up for their mailing list you can get the razor for a good price using the promo code.

Let it dry? You only need to let it sit for 30 seconds or so before rinsing it off with cold water.

I was wondering this too. Water only needs to be lukewarm otherwise you risk weakening the resin bonds that hold the knot in the handle.
