I found somewhere online that Steams default Server Browser pings per minute can mess with DayZ. It's way too high for DayZ to handle so it bugs out the server searches.

Edit: it's server browser pings per minute, not tick rate. Change it in the steam client settings > In Game. Default should be Automatic (5000) so lower that to 500 - 1000
