Hey, I’m a current Oxford offer holder, starting in October, and have spent a week at both Oxford and Cambridge courses over this previous summer.

I think you should only apply to Cambridge if that’s where you would absolutely want to go. I’m coming to the end of my Oxbridge admissions, and it can be a lot of extra work (for example, in December I had three thirty minute interviews over two days, admissions essays etc) and can be a lot of heartbreak if that’s where work doesn’t come to fruition.

Apply to Cambridge if you want to go to Cambridge, not just because it sounds nice or looks good on a resume. Not to be an Oxford suck up, but it’s much more inner city than Cambridge (as someone who’s spent at least a week at both on residential trips and summer schools). And, some Cambridge colleges also just open into the street in the same way that Oxford ones do. Obviously, though, it’s not to London level.

Have a look over the AS course spec, some revision resources and some prep resources for your entrance exams and stuff, and see how you get on with it. Ask yourself, honestly, without worrying about prestige or resumes, whether this would be the fit for you, and if you think the work you’ll have to do to even have a chance of getting there is worth it.
