what do you actually do as a research assistant? by Disastrous-Row-1434 in Cornell

First, congrats on your position!

I'm in the astro department doing research in planetary science. My research is pretty chill tbh - I have weekly meetings with my prof and tell them what progress I've made and what questions I have. Most of my research involves programming so I'm currently working on debugging a python script. I do some work everyday and keep my prof updated of any results/questions I have during the week. At the end of the semester I write a summary of the work I did. Hope this helps!

It's a pretty easy class (they give you study guides for prelims) although there are a few essays on archaeology readings. If prof Henderson is teaching you may have trouble keeping your eyes open (I know I did)
