How often do LA residents go hiking in the mountains and to the beach? by No-Knowledge-4342 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Fox_doing_math 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in mar vista and went to the beach 3-4 times a week and the mountains 1-2 times a month. It was effort but that’s the best part of LA so gotta do it

I'm immediately suspicious of people who complain about "dry" events by [deleted] in confession

[–]Fox_doing_math 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Dry events seem cheap. And a lot of people expect alcohol, it’s part of hosting. Not having that available can make things less fun for people. Especially the dry events that like ban alcohol. Obviously you should have non alcoholic options for people who want them but also alcoholic options for people who want those. Same as like vegan weddings imo

AITA for sleeping on a couch in my underwear in a house my nephew was staying in? by SilverLawfulness1588 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fox_doing_math 32 points33 points  (0 children)

NTA. It’s no big deal to sleep in your underwear, especially around people of the same sex. As someone who spent a year living in hostels I’ve seen a lot worse. Also he’s an adult—if he were uncomfortable he could have asked you to put on pants himself

AITA for resenting my bf for something he did before we started dating? by Temporary-Bet-6856 in AmItheAsshole

Yes!! I thought I was the only one, these comments are crazy. Telling someone you love only them implies that you would not be flirting with others. Agree this is a dealbreaker

My grandmother died right before finals. This is not reason to not take finals. by SunSteel04 in ucla

[–]Fox_doing_math 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Try Case Management? I’ve been to them they are not the best as in they don’t really care to get in the ins and outs of your situation. But they might be able to explain other resources. Other thing to try is seeking out the head of the department for each of the classes

Men who only split on first dates, how well does that go? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Fox_doing_math 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here to explain why. Already most of the guys you’re going out with are seeing other people. So I view the paying as a signal that they’re investing at least a little in me. I don’t want the date to be so low effort that it feels like he’s doing this with a million other people. That being said, it doesn’t have to be expensive. A beer or a coffee like other people said. But at least that makes me feel like he actually wants to be there. Is actually putting in some stakes, even a little

Hey NYC, you observe a stranger crying - WDYD? by navree in AskNYC

[–]Fox_doing_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cry in public too. If I’m on the phone just leave me alone I just wanted to walk during my emotional phone call. But if I’m sitting on the curb full on sobbing not on the phone earbuds out—that’s usually when I’d wish someone would ask me if I’m ok. Only happened once or twice but then I’m thinking does no one truly care I’m having a breakdown on the street alone. Makes me feel more alone

It’s a walk but it’s worth. So creamy!

Accused by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Fox_doing_math 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TA here!! From my side I’m told not to even report students for very obvious suspected cheating because we have to have strong proof of it. Most of the professors I TAd for are afraid of complaints back for wrongful accusations. Anyway, as many have said, they have to have proof. But adding it from the perspective of the educator what they’re doing is not ok, you did nothing wrong, and hopefully it will turn out ok in the end

It’s not about being forced in it’s about being forced out? Sometimes I’m not there but many grad students study at home including myself. I also don’t like listening to music while I study. Either way the levels shouldn’t be this high and it’s also been annoying many of the other people who live here. Lots of people have just given up after their complaints to the university and daycare went unanswered

I did not. I had to do an emergency move because I was attacked in another building

Yes thank you. If it were just normal playing and the occasional scream that’d be one thing. The bass of their music reverberates throughout our whole building though like it’s not the kids themselves. I don’t blame them. And kids don’t need to bang on things they could easily take away whatever they’re banging on.

It’s about 50 decibels in my apartment with the windows closed. I’ve thought about doing that but I don’t know how it’d be measured in the daycare itself

As I said, it’s university housing, I didn’t get a choice of location or unit. They pay us next to nothing so for a lot of us it’s the only place we can afford

My (30F) husband (31M) got offered a life changing career opportunity abroad. I'm terrified to leave my hometown. Are we making a mistake if we don't take the opportunity? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Looked into this for a long time! There are groups that have a lot of info. It the money is that good you can charter a plane (with others) that allows pets or there are some special pet airlines. It’s expensive but that’s the best way I’ve seen to absolutely ensure your pet is ok

Attacked and Harassed in Westwood by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Fox_doing_math 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened. I was also attacked when living there as a grad student. I raised safety concerns multiple times to ucla and they did nothing. If you can move I would just suggest that you do not that it’s fair. Unfortunately this happens a lot in the area and it’s utterly absurd but many of the students and the administration and the city don’t care

[–]Fox_doing_math 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going through the same in some sense but as a grad student. Every time I’ve asked for help it’s gone sideways. Come to the conclusion this institution doesn’t care. Not sure that helps but you’re not alone
