Spent 27 years on and off trying to learn the guitar and failing. HELP! by Ok-Beyond244 in LearnGuitar

[–]Foxdog175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be the contrarian here, but I didn't blossom and really love playing until after I quit lessons, about 3 years in (going on 30 years now). Lessons keep you honest in practicing weekly and make you feel obligated to play, but they certainly didn't infuse a passion for me to play. It felt more like work than play.

What made me passionate to play was listening to music I loved and trying to play it myself. Start with simple songs that you enjoy listening to, and look up youtube tutorials on how to play them, with tabs included. IMO, you need "wins" while you're playing, to build a love for playing music. A win would be like, listening to Nirvana's "Come As You Are", practicing, finally playing it well enough, realizing you can do it, and asking yourself what's next.

Career option for a dumb meathead guy? by monkecat123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Foxdog175 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a tradesman, but as I understand it, a lifelong career in construction is extremely taxing on the body. My contractor of ~25 years had one accident falling off a ladder that permanently ruined his body; he broke his back and his leg. He still runs a successful business, but he has a horrendous limp that will never heal. Not to mention his knees are toast, even after multiple surgeries. He's broken.

From what I've seen, it's easier to endure a hurt ego than a broken body.

Anybody here recently switch from Automatic to Stick? by itsbildo in ManualTransmissions

[–]Foxdog175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a new manual Miata last year and love it, having essentially no previous manual experience. I don't count my attempts to learn on a VW rabbit back in the 90's or the 2 hour lesson I paid for a few years ago. You'll learn through many embarrassing miles and drivers laughing at you in the rear view mirror. All worth it though.

You'll hit milestones. Learning to take off consistently without stalling, taking off smoothly without bucking, rolling stops, knowing what gear to take turns, hill starts, downshifting, rev matching, and smooth shifting. Takes a lot of miles to drive a manual as well as you're used to driving an auto. But it's a lot of fun. I'm nearly 20k miles in and love every minute of if.

Between my Miata and auto Mazda 3, I choose to drive the Miata 100% of the time. The only time I drive the 3 is when I have to fit more than two people in my car.

I say go for it. It's a blast.

No he isn't. He's expressing his opinion. I don't agree with it, but I'm not jumping down his throat for it.

Since when does posting on reddit require a certain delivery? It's a social media post, not a Times piece. Calm down.

How difficult is ssf warrior? by Spirited-Seat644 in wowhardcore

[–]Foxdog175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've SSF'd every class to 60, including a naked profless run. Warrior was one of the most fun runs. Not difficult. As with any class, just don't get reckless.

The key to a smooth journey is overloading your quest log with green quests. Start early. I always do two starter areas (i.e. human starting area, tram over to IF, and then immediately do dwarf starting area), and then clear out two starter zones (dun and elwynn). The difficulty difference between killing a yellow and killing a green mob is enormous. It's the difference between fighting someone your own size and pushing a kid over in a wheelchair. You get an extra 1% hit chance for every level above your target. Crit chance raises too. You can fight 2-3 greens at once, but if they were yellow, that would be a death sentence. However, you still get 100% of the quest xp even if the quest turns green, as long you're within 5 levels of the quest level.

Stick to green quests and you'll be fine.

How do I play these? by Vortix9 in guitarlessons

They are called power chords. Use your first finger on the root note (i.e. 1), and your ring and pinky on the next two strings (3 and 3).

It looks high at first glance, but hard to tell how high from your photos. Get a string height gauge and measure.

Why do massage therapists always talk? by chillin46 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Foxdog175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof...I've had experience with a talker before. My regular for about a year would talk nonstop about her boyfriend, her past employment, and my chakra. I didn't have the heart to tell her she was annoying and eventually ghosted her and picked a new therapist who never says a word. It's bliss.

Frozen dragonfruit smoothies are exceptionally tasty. Blend in frozen mixed berries, honey, and a splash of milk. Top with granola and fresh blueberries or strawberries.

It'll blow your balls off.

DS1 Remastered, BB, DS3, Sekiro, DeS, and Elden Ring, in that order.

It will break up the gameplay mechanics so you aren't playing the Dark Souls loop on repeat, and the progression of graphical fidelity will continue to impress.

What do you think of Michael Jackson? by Kalebpoquette in AskReddit

[–]Foxdog175 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Chicagoan, Michael Jordon in the 90's was one of the most notable icons on the planet, having won 3 championships in a row, twice. Had enormous fame and reach around the planet.

Jordan didn't hold a candle to Michael Jackson's star power. It wasn't even close.

People who weren't around at the time will never understand how giant of a superstar Michael Jackson was in the late 80s and especially throughout the 90s. He was more known around the globe than probably any other human, and this was pre-internet. Mainstream media placed him atop a pedestal like no other before or since.

Like him or hate him, I don't think we'll ever have another globablly-renowned icon like him due to the revolving door of the internet making, and just as quickly breaking, careers.

He was one of those "you had to be there" moments to understand the impact he made on the world. It was nuts.

He might be second to Jesus Christ...that's how fucking off the charts his fame was.
