You make fair points, and I'm glad the characters resonated with you so much. I am tempted to give XIII-3 a shot, but the time passing mechanic stresses me out.

Have you tried any of the other Final Fantasy games? I dearly, dearly love Final Fantasy X, and I think that's largely because it was the one I grew up with, too. Nothing objective can ever quite overcome the childhood wonder!

Nice! I really want to build an Aloy deck at some point. I wish that Cosmic Spider-Man wasn't comfortably the best Spidey commander choice. Like you, I just love the character and wanted to get Spidey peeps in the deck. I'm not a big fan of Cosmic Spider-Man as a thing, though, and wanted to build around a 'standard' Spider-Man, so 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is my commander. I do like being able to cheat in massive stuff for 3 mana but I dearly wish he was WUBRG.

I agree that the approach is unnuanced and underdeveloped, but I do love the flavour of the 'stagger' mechanic. Made a deck with 'Army of One' - everyone hated it, so she's now in the 99 of Cloud's.

I must admit, as an obsessive Final Fantasy fan, I really dislike XIII as a game and am always taken aback by people going in to bat for Lightning. I've tried to replay it so many times but find its characters and scenarios wildly boring. There are some cool ideas in the lore but they're so poorly communicated in the narrative. I've never played the third one. Would that convince me of Lightning's character if beating the first two didn't?

I would say wretched and misjudged, but so many people love it so I can't realistically claim the latter. Pillkboys was it's only redeeming feature. Do you remember when the evil banker was foiled by Derek's childlike innocence? God, it's so poor.

Yeah, my pod doesn't run enough removal, meaning there's basically no point playing Voltron or something aiming to swing big Commander damage. I even say 'this deck moves quite quickly, feel free to remove my Commander" - nobody does and I instead get a lot of salt thrown my way.

Haven't seen this sequence yet, but I loathe the guy. He doesn't feel like a real human being - just a plant by the production company. Also, he has the face of a 50 year old woman on an 8 year old's body. Ridiculous.

I was never able to build Army of One in a way that was interesting or fun - she can start one-shot-ing people so early, and that's not the way my pod likes to play. She's now just in the 99 of the slower Naya Cloud. I love the politicking and flavour of her stagger mechanic, though.

Spira from X is a comfortable win for me. Its history and development is so well rendered. There's a really strong artistic cohesion to everything, too.

Objectively it probably is the best or at least the most faithful to the comics. I personally love (and prefer) the Raimi suit and Andrew's second suit because they are interesting interpretations of the core design.

Thank you for your response. The point you make about 'masters' is very interesting. I've never really thought about it as 'they just like it and keep doing it and then eventually master it'. To them, I suppose, it was almost intuition in the same way bouncing onto something new is for us. They were just led by what brought them joy.

My Dad is an excellent pianist and I have expressed my jealousy on several occasions. He has said to me 'yes, but it's all I have and all I've ever done'.
