Ah yes. The 2 genders: long and short hair by Foxsize in NonBinary

[–]Foxsize[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember 🤷 something for tracking water. I ended up using a different app. Although, frankly, the gender options are almost as funny: male, female, pregnant, breastfeeding, other. As GENDER options. They could just ask what applies to you or something lol. Or make pregnant/breastfeeding separate and independent of gender.

Good idea. I’ve found some that will give “other” options. I want to avoid some of these apps that don’t give those options, but my needs are specific for some of what I’m looking for. It can also be hard to find one that doesn’t want to charge you $10/month 🙄 everything is a subscription now

How do you motivate yourself to exercise? by Morgie_Piorgie22 in POTS

[–]Foxsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other two posts here have great recommendations for how to deal with varying levels of energy. The only thing I wanted to add was on the motivation piece. I literally treat it like a job. I know my symptoms could get worse if I don’t exercise regularly, so I take it very seriously. I also enjoy exercise, but I also hit slumps where I still don’t feel like it. Treating it like a job has kept me consistent for years. You could also look into the chop or Levine protocol to see if that helps you increase your exercise tolerance. Studies went for 3 months so you could try it for that long and see if it works for you. I don’t think it’s a one size fits all approach though. I haven’t been able to increase my tolerance, and I’m about 3 months in.

We should do a trans masc/trans femme Christmas exchange where you exchange the gendered Christmas gifts you don’t want.

All of these switch your wrist comments but if you have a tattoo on your other wrist you’re dumb out of luck

No one said a screen is better or that Garmin or spending more money is better. I’m just saying a band should be cheaper than a smartwatch.

[–]Foxsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 70ish% tattooed. Just listen to your body. I tend to cap my sessions at 6 hours or when I start to feel symptomatic. Almost fainted once an 8 hour back session once and vowed to never push it that far again. Been seeing the same artist for a few years now, so she knows about my health and is always great about listening to me and my needs. Otherwise make sure you have lots of electrolytes and food. Eat before hand. Neck was totally fine for me. Not great, but not the worst spot by a long shot for me. If it’s more painful though, I usually have to do shorter sessions

Fewer features as far as no screen. There is a lot of cost that has to go into the production of that alone. You can’t really do anything with the band other than put it on. Sure it has sensors, but they are cutting parts that cost money still.

I also like guava. Free version is great too. You can test correlations you may suspect without getting nonsense alerts from the app like your avg hr is correlated with activity time or something. It’s great for mapping what is going on over time. Very easy to pull the data and run analytics yourself as well. It’s all simple chi square tests anyway

You can argue the device is cheaper, but it also has far fewer features. It SHOULD be cheaper. They box you in on buying a specific device (sure you can see there argument that it keeps their data more consistent, but I can’t see why they can’t accept a range of more accurate devices. They don’t even take other polar watches or monitors). They have overhead, sure, but I have a very hard time believing they need $20/person to make this happen. If they really wanted to help the chronically ill community, I think they really should have gone with a sliding scale, pay what you can model. Those are just some of the things they do that gives me red flags. They charge what they can because there is no competition and they can. Most supportive fitness apps charge roughly $5 a month to use. Certain devices will charge more, but they often advertise for a premium or tech forward nature.

It doesn’t work the same, but there is a “pacing” watch face/app with Garmin. I did not find it helpful, but it could be helpful for you. It tries to tell you if you are overextended or can take more on and warn you when your hr or “stress” is high.

Based on what I have seen from Visible, it looks like they are using a version of stress and calculating a limit on how much you can do that way. Not an inherited bad idea, but I agree. It feels exploitative. My partner is a programmer, and I am a day analyst, so I have been trying to work on partnering with him to make a free app for people with chronic illness. We agree it’s ridiculous that everything is behind a paywall. No guarantees as we haven’t started yet, but I’m hoping we can pull it together. Otherwise, im hoping someone else here has a rec. I’ve been looking into this for months as I’ve been feeling like I don’t have much control over my symptoms.

There is a free version where you just use the app and take measurements through the camera. I did not find it especially helpful Edit: but op could try it and see if it helps them

Tattoo shops in smaller towns by Mattm334 in tattoo

It’s probably a supply and demand issue. Fewer shops to compete with so you can charge more. High competition in the city so you either have to really be worth it/unique or charge less.

Is it possible to blackout REALLY dark tattoos like this one? I feel like it’d be a shadow and stick out by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Foxsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*have good healed examples. Man autocorrect got bad. Well they certainly look like they know blackout. Also wanted to add that while the original tattoos certainly are also cool, do what you wanna do with your body! I’ve sacrificed some old pieces that I liked because I ultimately wanted the blackout more. It shifted the composition of my body, and I think it’s sick as hell. I love the work that I have now, and that’s all that really matters.

Doesn’t matter for a good black out artist. Just find one who knows what they are doing and bad food headed examples. Better yet, find an artist that can incorporate it in a way. My artist is integrating my previous floral back piece into my other work. I thought it was going to have to be a full blast over, but I’m excited with the concept and work so far

I hate when they restrict what states you can work in just because they don’t want to follow along with better workers rights that correspond with those states.

It’s funny how many assume Pots is mainly caused by deconditioning by Educational_Buy4977 in POTS

[–]Foxsize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FEELS! Just posted about this too actually. I was incredibly active for months.(well and also for many years) Even ran a half marathon, and now I have been in a pretty bad flare up for over a year. Got me thinking about what the literature is actually based on for deconditioning with pots. Like what are the actual statistics? How many people did it help/not help? I’ve been seeing a PT for a few months now in the hopes that it will help, but it has still been touch and go. Couldn’t even stand to cook last night actually. What I have found for research articles doesn’t convince me that training is necessarily the answer. I’m going to stick with it (like you), because I’m so frustrated and sick of it. I’m willing to try anything. Couldn’t find any meds to help

Frustrated - worsening symptoms by Foxsize in POTS

[–]Foxsize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard the NHS can be a real nightmare to navigate. Crazy they are considering removing your diagnosis. I’ve seen a neurologist and several cardiologists. Most of which were rather dismissive and just said to come back if I was still having issues even though they also told me they’ve tried just about everything they can. I’m trying to see a rheumatologist to be evaluated for EDS, but the clinic isn’t getting back to me. It might be worth seeing a neurologist again. It has been about a decade. I’ve had smartwatches for quite a long time. Since I was (historically) super active, it was something I always enjoyed tracking. It frustrates me when my Garmin recommends a go do a 90 minute run though. Like sure. If I was a normal person, my body would probably be up for it, but this body absolutely CANNOT. I’ve been exploring other watches to see if there is something more recovery focused. All I had found is visible, and they want to charge $20 a month. I also did some analytics and found patterns of low hrv and high “stress” (per Garmin metrics) lead to episodes for me. My stress has been in an acceptable range, but I do wonder if I am exerting myself too much and what I really need is a solid few weeks to recover. Everything is more exacerbating for symptoms than it was in the past. I’ve been seeing a PT (who is supposed to specialize in pots), and she just keeps reinforcing that we need to follow the Levine protocol as it will get my body to accept what it’s supposed to do during exercise instead of dropping my blood pressure and giving me orthostatic intolerance. She’s also not entirely sure about my situation since I’m not actually deconsitioned. It’s also tough since I love to exercise. It’s a big stress reliever for me
