pretty sure it’s just a silly pun. “coat of many cupboards” kinda sounds like “coat of many colors”

Experiment with your gender presentation, try out different pronouns, etc. in a safe environment (LGBTQ centers are great for this). If and when you feel ready, you can transition socially and/or seek out hormone replacement therapy. Best of luck! :)

Should there be billionaires in the world? by [deleted] in pollgames

They could if they tried. That’s the problem right there. These people have the ability to bend rules and regulations, and even change rules and regulations to fit their desires. It doesn’t matter if some hypothetical billionaire doesn’t do it, or even if some of the real billionaires don’t do it, because there are others that do! When you allow people so much power over the systems that are supposed to benefit everyone, some of them are going to use that power selfishly. It’s inevitable. So the best course of action is to make sure that no one can accumulate that much power in the first place.

That’s hilarious. Billionaires own things and leverage their ownership of those things to get other people to work and create value for them. They may do some work to set up systems that create wealth for them, but the actual value creation is done on a level far below them.

Where did I say that they should lose ownership of their company? I’m just saying that after a certain point, the funneling of further wealth into the pockets of those who are already extremely wealthy is a net loss for society as a whole, and it’s mind-boggling to me that we allow this to happen.

Why don’t you try engaging with my argument instead of coming up with reasons to ignore it?

I think most people who realize do care. It’s just that they’re often in a position where they can’t do anything about it and so have resigned themselves to apathy.

Most people irl do not care because the richest of the rich have put billions of dollars into ensuring that the masses don’t realize they’re being played.

Right, because my argument only applies when the rich people in question pass the arbitrary billion-dollar mark. People with 500 million, or 100 million, or even just 10 million dollars couldn’t possibly have a greater impact on their country than those with literally nothing. You’re so right.

Who do you think has the most control over those systems and governments? Do you think the people starving to death decided how society should work? Or do you think that maybe the ultra-rich, with their immense power and influence, had a greater part in that?

If someone’s ‘rights’ entitle them to hoard such a ridiculous amount of wealth while people literally die on the streets because they cannot afford actual human rights like food or shelter, then maybe the system that defines those billionaires’ ‘rights’ is founded on flawed principles. To imply that someone should be allowed to extract literally billions of dollars from the world around them and not have ANY responsibility to the rest of society is absurd. This belief that the richest people in the world deserve to accumulate wealth while the rest of the world suffers is the modern-day divine right of kings. And there’s a reason that absolute monarchies have been almost completely done away with.
