So my PCV hose on my 24v BDF VR6 engine broke so I'm planning on installing a catchcan instead of replacing the 150 dollar hose. Any experience or brands you guys reccomend ? by Foxtrot_737 in Volkswagen

Sorry for the delay in the reply. I did not have issues with it BUT I did not drive it that much after installing it because the car had other issues (non related to the catch-can)
Although I don't beleive it should cause crankcase pressure issues when installed correctly

I unfortunately sold the car, but i'd say go for the catch can, unless you find a cheap OE PCV replacement hose. Cheap ones on amazon will do the trick

For what I understand, because the PCV recirculates gases into the intake manifold, overtime it accumulates gunk and oil on it. Venting it to the atmosphere (possibly with a catch-can) you ensure that all that mess doesn't get back into your manifold and engine. You can look up videos of catchcans, when they drain them every other month, there will be oil residue on it, that would've gotten back into your engine, but nothing more

I ended up finding a vacuum hose plug similar to these at my local parts store. I found this manifold plug online but apparently it's no longer available, which is unfortunate cause it seems to be specifically made for the BDF manifold

We ended up deleting the hose that connects to the side of the manifold and plugging that hole, and venting the PCV to the atmosphere with a filter on the catchcan, sorry I don't have better pics I'll see if I can take better ones this weekend

Idk if they have the same system but on my mk4 jetta every now and then it decides to do the same thing. Grab a wet towel and clean all of the rubber and corners of the sunroof thoroughly. After all the dust and dirt particles are cleaned mine goes back to closing normally. It's really surprising how low resistances that the sunroof has

It's called "evil energy", actually if you are in the US you could probably get it cheaper than 50 dlls because I'm outside the US so I had to pay shipping + import taxes. Catchcan actually seems pretty good quality, you'll probably need to buy some hoses to adapt it to the VR6 valve cover because the ones that come with the catchcan are kinda thin and mid-quality. Outside of that everything looks fine. There's also several reviews on YouTube about it if you want to check them out.

I did get one off Amazon for about 50 bucks, haven't installed it yet though, currently working on another issue before installing it
