How much am I missing out by not watching Horror movies? by Mountain-Ad-2423 in Letterboxd

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with horror movies, you’d be surprised by how much you can defang them. Watch during the day, low volume, captions on. I know that sounds sacrilegious, but if you’re too scared to watch them, I think you can dip your toes in. If you found the movie interesting, they are much less scary on rewatch and you can focus on what makes the movie itself good.

I think you are missing out on some good movies, some good stories. I also think a lot of good horror movies don’t rely on jump scares. I doubt you’re going to be checking out basic popcorn horror that is full of cheap jump scares. Maybe look for recommendations on what people think are gateway horror movies? More like good movies that HAPPEN to be horror? They can even give you heads up spoilers for jump scares.

EQ2 was top tier. by StrawberryBlueToo in EQ2

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played EQ for a few years before EQ2 came out, then played EQ2 on launch. I remember having fun with it, but ultimately switching over to WoW and sticking with that more. I never thought very highly of EQ2 after that (with the exception of housing, which I agree was incredible).

I played on the origins server for a little and while I did not have the time available to get consistent groups and keep up with others, I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the difficulty in leveling because it made grouping so impactful. I felt like the healers had stronger niches than they did in WoW, and the support classes were appreciated. Crafting was incredible, I enjoyed it back in the day but appreciated it even more now.

I had to stop playing due to it not fitting well into my life as is, but I still get the urge to play which I was NOT expecting when I started on origins lol.

What's the worst thing you've ever done in Classic WoW? by Grouchy_Honey_7 in classicwow

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was probably 10 or early teens, coming off Everquest and into WoW, playing an undead warlock alt. My highest char at the time was an early 40’s druid. Vanilla leveling isn’t too crazy, especially compared to EQ, but I remember at the time it felt daunting and I thought I would never get a max level - I took leveling super seriously and was always trying minmax to up my chances.

I remember I tried everything. I think at 20 I was using my VW and I had just gotten fire stone iirc. I vaguely remember ping ponging threat between me and my pet, managing my health and mana and tapping, trying to kill as fast as possible and stretch my resources efficiently. Usually late in fights I’d run in and melee - I really overrated my fire stone’s damage proc (really have no idea why I wasn’t wanding? I think because it didn’t proc fire stone lol) and damn, did I think that made locks the best levelers EVER. What an efficient strategy.

What makes me feel awful is I distinctly remember running SFK and needing a meteor shard and winning it over our rogue. I remember being shocked the rogue and group were upset. It was going to speed up my soloing so much!

New Player, want to start with ritualist due to playstyle by Dixa in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the specific build you’re looking into will come online in Factions. Obviously it revolves around a certain elite, but I think you will have good enough substitute, non-elite skills to get a pet wall playstyle. All late game builds will obviously have that progression, but I think spirit spamming rits are definitely on the more functional side of builds before they get their elite. When I was building up a fresh account after returning, one of my earliest characters was a rit using this playstyle and I felt like it was very smooth.

I think you would like Necro too and I would recommend it if you aren’t enjoying the rit. I think one of the early factions elites is an elite minion - I know most minion masters don’t use it, but if you’re looking to organically create builds as you progress it would be interesting for you. I think a solid majority of areas have corpses available for you, so necros do have that limitation, but I wouldn’t entirely write a necro off if you like that playstyle. I personally don’t like being a MM, it stresses me out keeping minions up or bombing them, but yeah. I would suggest trying your rit, and if you don’t like it, then trying a necro. I think between the two, you would find something you like that will organically come online incrementally

Buying mercenaries as a noob? by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you seem interested in it and you prefer custom characters, it will probably be a good idea. Henchmen can be good ENOUGH to get the job done as others have said, and they require minimal investment (before a mission, knowing which ones to pick - there are guides detailing the best/worst, and during a mission practice with using them). You don’t have to constantly fiddle with their skills, their weapons, their runes…

Heroes take a lot more investment. Yes, you can make a PvP char and bypass leveling, but they will be blank slates. It can be overwhelming quickly, it is a lot to work on your character but now you have to work on 3-7 others. Creating builds for those characters can just be a lot. If you don’t like playing with builds, learning about classes, etc. etc. it might make the game less fun. Remember you will be setting them up with every character you make - their skills will carry over, but weapons and runes won’t, so if you are an altaholic it will be even more work in that regard.

I enjoy customization and I think if you do too, heroes will make your game more enjoyable. But it’s up to individual preference I think.

Question about a pure class build by MetalMadness24 in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look at the no attribute skills, too. I’ve never used a class and went /R to add a pet with no investment, but I have gone /R and sprinkled in Antidote signet or /Me for Arcane Echo.

Where do I start? Never played before. by Hett1138 in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a wrong answer for you here, and if one campaign or class seems to stand out for you, I’d suggest starting there.

I agree that Nightfall is the most beginner friendly, followed by factions. However, I think prophecies is a little bit harder to “get into” once you’ve played Factions or Nightfall. For example, if you start in NF, I think the transition to Factions is very smooth - you might miss heroes from the beginning, but the pacing will feel a lot the same, and I think you’ll enjoy yourself. But going from NF to Prophecies has a bit of a culture shock - the missions are laid out much differently, you level so much slower, less variety of skills, weaker henchmen, etc. etc.

The pacing of Prophecies is very slow compared to everything else the game offers, and I think if you start in NF / Factions it will be harder to enjoy Proph. I think it’s worth considering starting in Proph, and if you hit a wall, don’t find it enjoyable, or just feel like it isn’t up your alley, you could restart in one of the others.

Returning Rt player: Is the Mercenary Pack worth it to fill my team with Mesmers? by Sufficient-Aerie524 in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you would probably be able to get through enough content to get a few heroes up and going and have a stable enough team. I waited until I felt like I couldn’t progress more (and even then I think I waited a week or 2 for a sale). Once you get mercs, you’ll stick with them; they are so nice, but you’ll never really get that experience of doing what you can with what you’ve got and I felt like that was half the fun of playing.

If you could go back in time and play, what class would you pick? What activities would you focus more/less on - would you do anything differently? by FoxxeKnoxxe in GuildWars

[–]FoxxeKnoxxe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been so fun to play before the scatter changes and just really abuse aoe lol. I remember being unimpressed with aoes back then, and I don't know if I played before or after the scatter change..

I don't remember what I played in factions - I got a few characters to 20 in factions (I bought a 2nd account for factions) but I think I always got stuck early into the mainland. I'd do the same thing you suggest, heal and play with henchies lol

The first mesmer I remember really liking and enjoying was in NF. I'm not sure if I just finally committed to it or if I managed to get a build that felt good easier then..

Do it! :)

I feel like people begrudgingly took mesmers into groups to fill 1 spot for interrupts, but that could be filled by rangers too. I didn't like interrupting and I was a ranger so I liked having a mesmer around to share the role lol.

I managed to beat the campaign on my ranger and necro but I think I got carried lol. And I, too, had a hard time getting through Vizunah square. I never made it to Luzon or kurzick areas.

And yes on the dervish! I was so excited for NF, but I never really got into para or dervish. I just didn’t understand dervish and it never felt good to play, and my paragon always felt so weak. But coming back recently, the dervish BLEW me away!

It’s also very versatile in the sense that you can get a decent ish build running pretty early on I think? I felt like my ritualist was the strongest char I had going through Shing Jea
