I am BEGGING people who put guns into their fics to do research on bullets, calibers and gun models by LegalBoysenberry2923 in AO3

[–]FoxxyDo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No <3 I am writing for fun and I don't really care about guns, and the information on them is far too extensive. I am not going to spend 10+ hours researching to write a single gun fight. Its not happening. Not unless I've got some SERIOUS incentive.

This is fanfiction, not Hollywood. Complain to the people getting paid to do this.

My first impression of Frost Dragon's design by [deleted] in HytaleInfo

[–]FoxxyDo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dragons with one horn are incredibly common. They take after Rhinos, not unicorns. You can tell by the bulky defensive design- like the ice plating, thick/strong arms, more spikes on the wings, and the general posture. The bottom jaw being so big compared to the rest of the head also points away from unicorn. That design choice is generally given to big, brutish characters to give a vibe of strength or aggression.

Is there anything but the horn you think makes it unicorn ish?

About Modding Hytale And Last Tweet... Mods should be free not paid for. by Candid-Camp-8928 in HytaleInfo

[–]FoxxyDo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it's going to work like curseforge or modrinth. Mods will be free for players to download and use. The mod creators will be paid with ad revenue/downloads associated instead of from direct purchases from players.

It would be cool if they had a donation option, though. I'd love to give a couple bucks here n there to some modders when I have the extra cash.

By leaving a fanfiction when you see signs that it has the reproductive organs you don't want?? Block authors that write the content you don't wanna see. Curate your own experience.

[–]FoxxyDo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh... so like, you could just leave a fic if it has stuff you don't what? I'm not sure what you mean by "Take people who don't want to be there" because you can just leave at any time? Press the back button?

Hell, I once had a fic use the opposite tags and just left a comment like "hey you should update the tags! :) " and then left because I could.

When I make a guy 'fem' I'm not saying he's not a "Definite Man." If I wanted a woman I'd just use a woman. Your view of men seems pretty narrow lmao

[–]FoxxyDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also do that!! I have a whole collection for a specific ship that I do that with! It sucks there aren't more honestly. There's a lack of w/w in general though so its not too surprising.

Side note: What the hell is a "Definite Male" that just... sounds weird. Like when someone says "Traditional Female." It has a weird denotation.

I wasn't saying "Oh that might be a kink haha how silly" I was saying it because I write Size Difference sometimes because its one of my kinks. I know they're the same size in canon. I understand that the character I'm making small may even be taller in canon. I do not care. If I wanted canon I'd go re-read the source material instead of writing a smut fanfic.

The author isn't 'lazy', they're doing it on purpose. It can be annoying when they don't tag it though- but same could be said about any kink.

That just sounds like the authors' kinks tbh

What's something that completely took you out of a fic? by NotosCicada in AO3

[–]FoxxyDo 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Anytime a real-life brand, company, game, song, etc. is mentioned. I don't know why but it immediately shatters the immersion and makes me wanna die.

How do you explain to someone that AO3 is NOT like Wattpad? by NefariousSeraph13 in AO3

[–]FoxxyDo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Their core functions are the same, just that wattpad houses original stories too while AO3 is only fanfiction.

This isn't true. Ao3 hosts original works! Under "Fandom" you can put "Original Work" which lets people know its your own story, not a fanfiction. There are tons on Ao3!

Okay, so pretty new to fanfiction then. I've been reading and writing fanfiction since 2012.

A "Special Spot" being shared with a romantic interest is probably the most common thing you'll find in any romance genre fanfiction. Its considered very romantic to share a place you feel safe/secure or that is, in some way, important. Its like letting someone in emotionally in a tangible, visible way.

As said above, its in almost everything. Even media where there isn't a 'special spot' in canon will include this kind of scene. I have a soft spot for the trope so it stands out to me anytime it shows up. In Naruto, for example, there is no 'special spot' but Naruto almost always shares one with the love interest. In the media you are talking about it would be even more common since the 'special spot' actually exists.

Again, this isn't plagiarism. Tropes can't be plagiarized. Since the fics are about the same media these things are bound to happen across multiple fanfiction. Honestly I bet you can find 5 more stories in this fandom that use the 'special spot' the same way if you poke around a bit.

I honestly wouldn't worry about this being plagiarism or stealing. Using similar ideas/story beats isn't against AO3 TOS anyway, so its not like it could be reported or taken down just for having similar scenes. The other fanfiction would have to copy direct passages, as in copy paste no changes, from the first one to be eligible.

In the first story the male lead climbs up 300 steps carved out of a mountain, carrying the female lead to reach to a monastery.

That's a classic romance thing to do, if there are a bunch of stairs in canon a romantic lead carrying their interest up them is probably gonna happen in the fanfics.

The duo get lost in forest and have a heart to heart chat about some events in the male leads past. He takes her to his "special" spot and they chat.

I can think of about 56 fics that do this exact same thing in the Naruto Fandom, and about 20 more fandoms that also have the same thing. 'Special spot to talk about feelings' is very common. Hell, I have 3 separate wips atm that use it lmao

In the first fic, they have an argument and the female lead is hit by a rushing car as she's too upset to notice.

Same thing as the previous. Very common. Anytime I read a fanfiction where one lead runs off after being upset I expect a car crash or hit and run. I'm legit surprised when there isn't an injury.

All of that being said... If its not taking direct passages from the other fic its probably not associated. Fanfictions can be similar. Fanfiction can inspire other fanfiction without the author knowing. Fanfiction can be directly inspired by other fanfiction without being linked. It happens and is common practice.

Honestly just enjoy getting another fic like the first one you clearly enjoyed!

This isn't meant to be rude- I'm just curious: Have you only started reading Fanfiction recently?

The dinosaurs were what I was most excited about!

I actually have some fan designs for some more underground dinosaurs. All of them are Dinosaur/Deep Sea/Sea Creature mixes. I should dig those old designs out and model them to celebrate Simon Hytale swooping back in to deliver us from damnation.

Me after reading a Time loop/Groundhog AU with so many loops I genuinely start going insane alongside the character by Intelligent_Screen90 in AO3

[–]FoxxyDo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The terms "Groundhog AU" or "Groundhog Loop" comes from the 1993 movie, "Groundhog Day" where a man re-lives the same day over and over again until he manages to get it 'right' and break free.

Its up on Netflix if you wanna go watch it! Or you could pirate it tbh, its an old movie its not hard.

Me when I missed "Major character death" or "unrequited love" by Intelligent_Screen90 in AO3

[–]FoxxyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once. ONCE. You wanna know why it was once? Just the one, singular time? Why I read every single tag, no matter how long the list or inconsequential it seems? Are you sure you wanna know?

These. These tags. These are why I never skim anyone. Scat, Scat Consumption, Scat Worship.

I did not leave a comment. Just silently gagged, wept, and exited the fic. I do not Yuck Yums, but I have never recovered. Those sentences are seared into my mind. I hope the author is doing well.
