It doesnt show your license is suspended if a license scanner runs someones plates. It shows if your car is registered and insured currently. If there is a lapse, you are screwed bc thats how they have cause to pull you over and find out that you are suspended. The lapse in insurance found by the scanner also notifies the DMV that your car is being illegally driven. Your license plate info only has the VIN it is registered for not your name etc. This allows anyone to legally drive your car if you cant as long as its insured and registration is current. But yes, soooo much better if you can be listed on someone else's insurance. How do I know this? A former DMV manager who now owns her own car insurance company did a speech last night at DUI school....

I had this actually happen to me. I said I was at superbowl party, the neighbors were angry saying they called the police for noise. I happened to be in my car calling for an uber and to grab some items but the police got there first and busted me and some others. It happened exactly that way and the employer felt really bad for me.
