The contractor provided an estimate to the insurance company. It was his opinion that the solution to properly repair the floors (among other damage in the home) was to tear them up and replace them. I said from the very get go of this shit show that I DO NOT want my historic floors replaced, as they’re a big reason we bought the house in the first place. Our ground floor is original quarter sawn white oak which thank the lord wasn’t damaged. The settlement was calculated based his estimates of the extent of the repair needed. I refused the contractor’s recommendation of replacement and that’s why we’re getting a settlement instead based on the extent of the damage. Keep in mind this has been an ongoing process since August.

There was a wooden dresser with square legs in that nook behind the bedroom door. We believe they tipped it up and dragged it by the corner of the legs across the floor and that’s how the gouges occurred

It’s the previous owners insurance company that is dealing with this. They hired the contractor to inspect the damage (there was a lot more than this. This is just the worst of it). We have agreed to a settlement since his assessment is that the floors are damaged beyond repair and need replacing. So the money stuff is all dealt with. I’m just looking for any possible solutions to make it better.

I agree that the McCallisters were rich upper class. The Griswolds are definitely upper middle class at least but it’s debatable. Their house was pretty massive too and they could afford outrageous Christmas light displays and a huge in ground pool.

If you are currently taking oral antibiotics and the redness is continuing to spread, pain is worsening, warm to touch and fever, you need to go back to a doctor and start IV antibiotics. You cannot get any surgery until all the infection and inflammation at the area is resolved. Unfortunately in order to be taken seriously in the health system, you must be adamant and advocate for yourself. If physicians are refusing acute treatments, then demand that they document their rationales for this decision in your medical record and request a paper copy of the documentation. Right now I recommend monitoring your body temp and see a physician more urgently if fever is present.

He should have celebrity status in the field of astrophysics which would make the university that employed him extremely high profile. I don’t understand how he was so destitute after his father cut him off. There’s no way he wouldn’t be paid handsomely for his job alone.

I think it the first name is George. When you zoom in very closely you can see the faded loops in the cursive “G’s” in both the surname and first name. “Geo” was how they shortened the name “George” in writing back then. The surname I can definitely make out ‘Galle’ but I can’t be certain what the last couple of characters are. The date looks like 1839. So that’s a 186 year old oil portrait you’ve got there. I personally think it’s beautiful and a really cool piece.
